Low carb Diet ...

Quote  |  Reply

I know that a low carb diet is not the healthiest choice but I am really desperate to lose weight and I would like to try something new especially that I keep hearing people say that they lost the most weight when they cut out carbs out of their lives... Again I don't want to cut carbs out of my life just want to limit them to the min ...

I would like to know what you think? and how should my nutrition meals be divided in percentages among fats, carbs & protein for this to work !!... any advice u can give me or previous experiences regarding this can u share?

Thanks :)

I don't know what you're eating now, but if you're eating refined carbs (white breads, rice, sugary cereals) then it's easier to start a "better carb" diet.  Cutting out the "bad carbs" and making room for whole grains with fiber really helps you eat better without feeling deprived.

I had the same experience cutting out the fatty proteins.  I stopped the fatty omelettes, burgers and deli meats and tons of cheese.  Now I aim for lean proteins and healthy dairy.

I aim for this ratio 50/25/25 (carbs/protein/fat) and feel rather full from it.  I need the carbs because I work out and they provide easy energy. I think the problem is when people eat too much refined carbs and/or don't exercise and the carbs are stored as fat.

Well I have done atkins on and off now for almost 5 years.  It works great and fast that is why I liked it.  But I just can't eat that way for the rest of my life.  I heard this somewhere and love this saying.  You have the rest of your life to lose weight, and to keep it off, so take it slow.  So don't rush it if you are going to gain it right back and trust me you will. You can only eat so many eggs :)  Oh and Atkins is very expensive!!!  I'm not talking the meals and bars but all the meat you have to buy.  Well if you have any questions about the diet feel free to send me a message.

I ate nearly 0 carbs for ageeeeees and lost 2 stone very quickly unfortunately that came with loads of sideaffects so i wouldnt go over board with the no carbs rule or just do it for a short amount of time.

im not sure how many carbs you are supposed to have a day but i keep mine to under 100g which is quite difficult...this seems to be quite low though and im keeping the weight off just.

you can definately eat alot more chocolate and stuff with the low carb diet.

but they are in everything! like apples and stuff have loads in.

cauliflower doesnt though.

Isn't 100 grams consumption of carbs considered to be alot for a low carb diet????!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! sorry i took so long to reply.

well obviously everything has carbs in it. even cottage cheese has about 5g carbs per 100g. but meat doesnt and things like that so your diet is quite limited. I had to have blood tests and things after i'd cut out carbs so dangerously and for so long. I think it's ok for a small amount of time to lose weight quickly but in the long run you just wont function becos you dont get enough calories from everything else.

100g is quite high for a low carb diet yeh but it's still a third less than you should have... 'The recommended daily allowance (RDA) is 300 grams of carbs per 2000 calories (about 60% of total calories)'

however i only have around 1500 calories per day so i probably should have around 150g carbs. ANYWAY, i find that 100g or lower carbs means i can eat pretty much what i want. its different for everyone.

atkins recommened 20g or less a day but i love popcorn and frosties wayyy too much. :]

There is also the South Beach diet that allows more carbs but is still a low carb plan. it emphasized whole grains and so forth - NO white bread etc....

I happen to like that plan and I did well but when my mom started to decline I ate whatever - whenever and I am now at 181 :-( and stuck

I plan on going back to it - I'm just not into right now!!!

Low carb is the way to go. 40/40/20 carbs, protien, fat and you're on your way. It really works, I lost about 37lbs this way, but I also did calorie restriction and cardio 4-6 days a week and weights 4 days a week.
