low fat/ff ice cream alternatives
I have a sweet tooth and on the weekends after dinner i like to indulge in some ice cream. I've been buying Weight Watchers Ice Cream Sandwiches (which were a decent substitute) but since it was a bit pricey decided to buy Slim a Bear 100 calorie sandwiches when they were on sale... what a dissapointment because they taste "fake".. lol.. so i was wondering before i try different brands/types if you had any recommendations of what you've tried and liked.. thanks!
when i'm craving chocolate i really enjoy the popsicle brand fudgsicle pops (only 60 cals!). i think weight watchers has a version too.
another neat trick is to take some light cool whip, put it between 2 graham crackers & freeze it. it's a nice litte faux-ice cream sandwich.

There are a few brands of low cal chocolate pops but YES YES SF Fudgsice (the brand name by brand Popsicle) is the bomb!!
Nothing low cal or fake tasting in them - even non dieters should make the switch because theyre great.
I like Dreyers yogurt blends, also they have some low cal ice creams that are not bad. Check out their website.

I had a box of Healthy Choice fudgicles in my freezer - I think I ate one - they were good, but not good enough. Now, I find a small scoop of the real thing hits the spot more than a larger serving of the lower cal options.
All fudgesicles are not created equal. We have a brand called Blue Bunny which has awesome fudgesicles. I've tried other brands. None of them had the right taste or consistency for my taste buds.
I also love the weight watchers english toffee bars.
Stick a pot of flavored yogurt into the freezer for a couple hours.
Then, voila!, a yummy frozen treat!
I love munching on frozen fruit like berries, cherries or grapes; something bigger like apples or bananas I will chop into bite-size pieces.
not sure where you are located, but in ontario we have a brand called "Chapmans"
they make mini sized regular ice cream treats. "lil fudgy bars" are my fav. all their stuff is like 100 cals or less. Some popsicles are only 40 cals... and delish. I'd look into that.
not sure if you drink protein shakes, but I have been making them and freezing them- turn out great and around 8-9grams of protein per pop- not bad!
you can also make your own granita. some fresh fruit and water. freeze it and scrape it every couple of hours. it turns into delish ice crystals. you can sweeten with sugar, honey, agave.. anything.
Skinny Cow item are good the sundae cones especially, and Breyers is now making light icecream and i have a weakness for their mint chocolate chip so it is perfect!!
I eat fudgsicles, all Skinny Cow items, and Breyers double churn no sugar added ice cream. I don't think the Breyers is too fake tasting, but I'm sure others may.
Ok, I have multiple suggestions (sweet tooth anyone? LOL!!)
Edy's makes two kinds of light ice creams: fully loaded and slow churned 1/3 less fat (http://edys.com/main/index.asp?b=105 check out the "Loaded" and the "Fun Flavors" tabs). You have to look at the nutrition info so you don't accidentally buy the full fat ones, but a 1/2 cup serving of these ice creams is 120-150 calories and they are AMAZING. They have cookie dough, cookies and cream, etc., and they regularly have limited edition flavors (a few months ago it was girl scout cookie flavors, so they had a thin mint one and a samoas one. Now they have a drumstick flavor that has pieces of ice cream cones and chocolate covered peanuts--YUM!!).
For indivually wrapped items, I find that most of the Weight Watcher's ones are the best. They have a Giant Cookies and Cream bar that is SO good (and only 140 calories) and good ice cream sandwiches.
I also do a variation on the ice cream sandwich kbattiato mentioned. Instead of using graham crackers, I use Quaker mini chocolate rice cakes.
Ok, that's all I can think of right now...
This might be something you find useful...

"Who wants to break the calorie bank on a cup of frozen yogurt? Not us! Here are a few things to know when you're cruising for frozen treats...Soft-Serve Portion Police!
Most soft-serve frozen yogurt has about 100 calories per serving. Not bad. BUT that's typically based on a half-cup serving, and even the SMALL containers often have more than 1 serving! Check it out...
TCBY - Here's the skinny on soft serve from TCBY, a.k.a. "The Country's Best Yogurt." A Small cup contains 2 servings, the Regular has 2.6, a Large has 3.3, and an Extra Large has 4.6 servings. So when it comes to the standard varieties at TCBY (which all have a nice amount of fiber), a Small cup has 220 - 260 calories and 4g fat (POINTS® value 4 - 5*) and an Extra Large has a whopping 506 - 598 calories and 9.2g fat (POINTS® value 10 - 12*). HG Tip! If you want something closer to a single serving, go for the Kid's cup, which has 0.8 servings, 88 - 104 calories, and 1.6g fat (POINTS® value 1 - 2*).
Pinkberry - This trendy little fro yo chain features fat-free tart yogurt in a trio of flavors. The Small contains 1.5 servings, which comes to 150 - 180 calories (POINTS® value 3 - 4*). The Medium has 2.3 servings and 230 - 276 calories (POINTS® value 5 - 6*). And the Large has 3.8 servings for a total of 380 - 456 calories (POINTS® value 8 - 9*). For more on Pinkberry, click here!
Red Mango - Here's another chain that serves up fat-free tart yogurt. The Small has 1.2 servings and 108 - 120 calories (POINTS® value 2*), a Medium has 2.1 servings and 189 - 210 calories (POINTS® value 4*), and a Large has 3 servings and 270 - 300 calories (POINTS® value 5 - 6*). Got it? GOOD!
The Bottom Line... The stats you see online and in stores are RARELY for an actual serving that's offered. So ask how many servings are in each size before you order. Then BE SMART and DO THE MATH! Also, keep in mind, the number of servings in each cup is an estimate. So if your fro yo is towering high above the top of the cup, you might want to add a few dozen calories to your total. Some DOs and DON'Ts of Dairy Desserts
DO top it off with fresh fruit. Berries, bananas, diced mango and more... ALL good on frozen yogurt, especially the tart kind. But if that fruit's floating in some kind of syrup, skip it!
DON'T forget to add 30 - 60 calories for each half-cup of fresh fruit topping (depending on the type)... especially if you're one of those people who orders a medium-sized yogurt in the extra-large cup so there's more room for toppings!
DO treat yourself to one of the small cones! They're low in calories, and they'll help you stick to a small serving or a single scoop. A small cake cone (flat bottom) has only around 20 - 25 calories and <0.5g fat (POINTS® value 0 - 1*). A small sugar cone (pointy bottom) typically has 45 - 60 calories and 0.5g fat or less (POINTS® value 1*).
DON'T give in to those giant waffle and sugar cones. Not only do they contain a lot of calories, but they're also ginormous vehicles capable of holding a massive amount of yogurt! And Now, A Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 Exclusive...
We're VERY excited to share this fantastic freezy recipe, since it allows you to have FRO YO FOR BREAKFAST. It comes straight from the pages of our new book. Enjoy!
Fro-Yo'ed Up Oatmeal Sundae
PER SERVING (entire sundae): 198 calories, 4.25g fat, 219mg sodium, 38g carbs, 4g fiber, 11.5g sugars, 5.5g protein -- POINTS® value 4*

1/4 cup quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt
1/4 cup fresh blueberries
1/4 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1 tbsp. strawberry (or any fruit flavor) sugar-free preserves (like the kind by Smucker’s)
1/2 tbsp. All Natural Almond Accents in Original Oven Roasted or Honey Roasted
1 no-calorie sweetener packet (like Splenda or Truvia)
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
Dash salt
Directions:
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine oats with 1/2 cup water. Microwave for 1 - 2 minutes, until desired consistency is reached.
Once bowl of oatmeal is cool enough to handle, mix in preserves, sweetener, cinnamon, and salt. Top with fruit.
Place frozen yogurt on top of the fruit layer, and then sprinkle with almonds. Serve immediately -- the frozen yogurt will melt, but it's delicious as it melts into the oatmeal!
MAKES 1 SERVING"
I say go for the Edy's(or Dryer's depending on your area)slow churned ice creams. They can range from 80 cals t o140 cals and are laoded with goodies and lots of taste. I heard they just introduced a new s'more flavor! I went on a search for it today but couldn't find it!
I ended up buying breyers brownie mud pie instead since it was on sale for $2.50!!!. I had a half cup serving of it tonight and it only had 130 cals and 3.5g of fat!!! Heaven!!!
Mamachula220- Amen on the hungry0girl sister friend!! I love her news letters and cook books!!!!! Everything is so creative and yummy! Have you tried that Fro-yo recipe yet? I have not but want to lol

you are my new best friend. this is what I imagine a heaven sandwich tastes like.
I blend up an entire package of Mori-Nu Lite Firm tofu (120cal for the entire 350g block) and add a little bit of Unsweetened Almond Breeze (10cal for 1/4 cup) and some vanilla or cocoa powder to flavor, and some Stevia to sweeten it.
the entire thing (over 400grams) comes to only 130-150 calories (depending if I use cocoa or not)
if I add gelatin I can turn it into "cheesecake"
if I freeze it, or add some ice it becomes "ice cream"
if I eat it as is, it is "pudding"
it's fantastic, guilt free, low carb, over 20grams of protein and less then 4 grams of fat

Just curious what is the process of adding a gelatin? Do you first disolve it in host water then add it in once it starts to kool down?
P.S. I do similar thing but just with Fage 0%. :)
Thanks UD.
i saw this somewhere...you could make your own using low fat milk i guess?
http://crafts.kaboose.com/ice-cream-in-a-bag. html
It's just four ingredients and takes 5 minutes. not definitely sure it works, though, but i wanna try lol.

yes to add gelatin I disolve it in HOT water, not host water... and then I add it imediately to the blender. I do not let it COOL or kool down
I used Mori-Nu tofu because I cannot get Fage Greek Yogurt in Canada.. I'd love to try it, but this is the next best thing I guess
