low fat/ff ice cream alternatives
I have a sweet tooth and on the weekends after dinner i like to indulge in some ice cream. I've been buying Weight Watchers Ice Cream Sandwiches (which were a decent substitute) but since it was a bit pricey decided to buy Slim a Bear 100 calorie sandwiches when they were on sale... what a dissapointment because they taste "fake".. lol.. so i was wondering before i try different brands/types if you had any recommendations of what you've tried and liked.. thanks!

I blend up an entire package of Mori-Nu Lite Firm tofu (120cal for the entire 350g block) and add a little bit of Unsweetened Almond Breeze (10cal for 1/4 cup) and some vanilla or cocoa powder to flavor, and some Stevia to sweeten it.
the entire thing (over 400grams) comes to only 130-150 calories (depending if I use cocoa or not)
if I add gelatin I can turn it into "cheesecake"
if I freeze it, or add some ice it becomes "ice cream"
if I eat it as is, it is "pudding"
it's fantastic, guilt free, low carb, over 20grams of protein and less then 4 grams of fat
Just curious what is the process of adding a gelatin? Do you first disolve it in host water then add it in once it starts to kool down?
P.S. I do similar thing but just with Fage 0%. :)
Thanks UD.
yes to add gelatin I disolve it in HOT water, not host water... and then I add it imediately to the blender. I do not let it COOL or kool down
I used Mori-Nu tofu because I cannot get Fage Greek Yogurt in Canada.. I'd love to try it, but this is the next best thing I guess
yeah, yeah I didn't proof read my post. ![]()
Fage is just a brand of Greek Yogurt, you can try other brands.

Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches and Cones

Ok, I have multiple suggestions (sweet tooth anyone? LOL!!)
Edy's makes two kinds of light ice creams: fully loaded and slow churned 1/3 less fat (http://edys.com/main/index.asp?b=105 check out the "Loaded" and the "Fun Flavors" tabs). You have to look at the nutrition info so you don't accidentally buy the full fat ones, but a 1/2 cup serving of these ice creams is 120-150 calories and they are AMAZING. They have cookie dough, cookies and cream, etc., and they regularly have limited edition flavors (a few months ago it was girl scout cookie flavors, so they had a thin mint one and a samoas one. Now they have a drumstick flavor that has pieces of ice cream cones and chocolate covered peanuts--YUM!!).
For indivually wrapped items, I find that most of the Weight Watcher's ones are the best. They have a Giant Cookies and Cream bar that is SO good (and only 140 calories) and good ice cream sandwiches.
I also do a variation on the ice cream sandwich kbattiato mentioned. Instead of using graham crackers, I use Quaker mini chocolate rice cakes.
Ok, that's all I can think of right now...
Edy's has a Smore's Limited Edition out right now that is to die for!
