low fat verison of Chex Puppy Chow?
I love making and eating Chex Puppy Chow, I'm heavily addicted to it, But it's very high in calories. It's made with chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter melted together and poured over Chex cereal, then powdered sugar on top of it. I was wondering if anyone had a recipe that's a snack and sweet like this but lower in fat? Any recipes or ideas would be appreciated.
PUPPY CHOW? That's a new one. I thought it was called Chex Mix. I was thinking, oh please don't let her be feeding this to her dog!! ![]()
What about popcorn?
I don't think there's really any way to have Chex Mix, of either sweet or savory varieties, be "good" for you. I know when you buy it pre-made, it's advertised as having 40% less fat than potato chips, but frankly, that's not saying much ;)
You could try mixing some cocoa powder with a little sugar and topping a bowl of chex (I mean, eaten like cereal with milk) with a little of that for a little sweetness and chocolate taste. The standby answer for healthy, sweet snacks is always fruit - smear a banana with a little bit of PB and eat with an ounce or two of chocolate. Buy pita bread, spray it with cooking spray or brush it with a little oil, sprinkle it with a little sugar and cinnamon, and bake 10-15 minutes until it's crispy. You could probably do the same thing with sugar and cocoa powder.
ETA: I try not to snack on sweet stuff. I still eat candy/cookies etc, I just try to save them for dessert. It's worked for me - I feel like I've achieved a reasonable balance of still allowing myself something I really love without consuming a large amount of sugar just because I want a snack.
omg. I LOVE THAT STUFF. thankfully I don't get it very often, or else I'd be in big trouble. Its so easy to eat alot of it because its not very filling and the crunchy combo of peanut butter and chocolate adn sugar is amazing. haha I sound like such a psycho but this might be one of my favorite things to eat ever. I vote just eat the good stuff just not all of the time, I wouldn't want to compromise on something like puppy chow.
My friend Dena, who lost 150 lbs, has a good strategy. She eats healthily for 20 meals a week, and then allows herself a Sunday night blowout. Whatever she wants to eat + dessert. She has maintained her weight for five years this way. I think this is an excellent way to have something to look forward to each week.
So make your Puppy Chow on Sunday night, just enough for one serving, and enjoy!
