Low impact workouts

Quote  |  Reply

So my therapist told me to lay of working out (I do strength training about 4 days a week and cardio mix of power walking/jogging like 6 days a week) until I'm medically cleared to do more. She told me yoga and taking walks are okay. But I feel so lazy! I know I need to gain weight, but I still kinda want to tone or at least not feel like a couch potato.

Anymore suggestions?

Take your therapist's advice, she's much more qualified to make judgements about what is/isn't ok for you to do than random people on the internet who have never met you.

As sully said, we don't know what you are medically cleared for, and what you aren't, so it's kinda hard to make a recommendation. Swimming is "low impact", but might not fit what your PT (I assume you mean physical therapist?) means by that.

How underweight are you? [You stated you needed to gain weight]. Is there a medical reason you are underweight/need to gain weight? Why did your therapist tell you to stop? It's nearly impossible and certainly irresponsible to give out advice without understanding the circumstances.

Thanks!

Look into the yoga stuff, you might be surprised.
It can be a great stress reliever and some of the positions you have to hold do work your muscles.

If that's just not cutting it you can try and run pilates by your therapist and see what she says, but I would definitely get an okay from her first. There must be a reason she wants you to do low impact stuff, so I would take it slow until she says otherwise.

well im 5'8 and i just went from 112 pounds to 117. I understand to get her opinion and not do anything that she does not recommend.

I dont want necessarily a work out, i do want to try yoga, but I just feel like moving and not sitting around lol. So I will try yoga, but I started cleaning a lot just to be busy and was looking into light gardening, maybe just to keep me busy and keep my mind off other things

I'm concerned as to why your therapist is giving you workout advice.  If you're too underweight to be working out, start eating more AND working out.  The two together will function better than either alone.
