Low progesterone level during first trimester?!

Quote  |  Reply

I googled it a bit and learned that one of the most common causes for miscarriage is low progesterone level, at least up until Week 10 when the placenta takes over.

(Does anyone have any experience or knowledge to share about this?

Sorry, UTR, I don't have any knowledge to share for you, but I do have experience with freaking myself out by googling things!

I know there are progesterone suppositories and creams, whether they're ever used to supplement during pregnancy I don't know. Surely your doc would have recommended a course of action if he/she thought that it was a big concern.

I don't mean to scare you, but my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 9 weeks, and my OB was certain that it was because of a progesterone imbalance. (Although, she had no way to confirm it at the time - miscarriages can happen for many reasons, but I had a history of low progesterone levels.)

I'm not sure if a progesterone supplment or therapy would have changed anything, but if you're really concerned you need to discuss it with your OB.  Did your doctor give you any feedback regarding your test results?

I didn't experience this with the first pregnancy so I am not sure what can cause this?

I also experienced this with both of my pregnancies.  My doctor put me on the progesterone supplements through the first trimester.  I carried both to term.  Best Wishes for a healthy baby.

Thank you for sharing your story mom22boyz
