along the lines of portion control, or what was once our DISTORTED portion ideals.   I think many of us that are overweight have an issue with the "I am full" mechanism. I can eat the proper amount and not be full when I am done.  If I walk away and not eat anything else, I get a full feeling about 15 minutes later...it takes my body a while to send that signal.  SO, if i eat until I feel full...that is WAY too much food KWIM?  I really think that is my issue.  I actually eat fairly good food.  I think what I thought was a serving was MUCH more than a actual serving.

Do any of your experience this?

I actually went below the 200 mark yesterday (I'm now 197.2lbs!) I go to Weight Watchers every monday night, so I will post my new weight after the meeting.

I want to get down to 160 by May 1st. So far I lost 11lbs in 3 weeks!!

YAY! Good job chubbygirl!!! WAY TO GO!!!

I have a question for you all. I have greatly increased my water intake over the past several days. I am drinking 3 bottles while at work and than an additional 2 in the evening at home. Does your body ever get used to this as to where I am not using the bathroom every 45 minutes??? I am getting a little embarrased about walking by everyone here at work to go to the bathroom....AGAIN!!

Whats your thoughts?

I am the same way. I eat great food! But when it comes to my portions, I suck. I have to sit and wait for 30 minutes to make sure whether I am hungry or just being "greedy."

And Tracy, thanks for answering my question earlier. I have no idea about your question about the water! This is something I would like to know too, because I sure look like that commercial for being unable to control my bladder lol.

kae03, I'm with you on the not always feeling full when eating what's supposedly the proper amount.  I've started using a lot of the tools that so many people suggest.....  eat high fiber food with each meal (even if it's just an apple), take smaller bites, eat slowly, take sips of water between bites, etc.  But, there are still occasions when I just can't seem to get full.  I think at those times it's more psychological and I'm just seeking comfort through food -- that darn old habit that made me overweight to start with!

chubbygirl82, CONGRATULATIONS on breaking the 200 mark!  YAY!  That's my mini goal so I'm really envious of you!  You go, girl!!!

dek04, there are so many different recomendations regarding water intake.  From what I've found in my research is that there's really no set 'amount' of water that you should drink.  The medical sites say it depends on your sodium intake for the day, if you've been doing a lot of strenuous exercise, etc.  The only thing they seem to have in common is that you should drink enough water to make your urine clear enough to read through.  I know what you mean about the bathroom trips!  I've been thinking about seeing a urologist to see if maybe I have a weak bladder or if it's indeed because I'm just drinking so darn much water!!!  I guess on the plus side, I get more walking time in by going to the restroom so often!  Sealed

Oh what we have to go through to be healthy!

my co worker and I are both trying to lose weight and both drink a lot of water...we both  pee constantly.    YOu will know you are drinking enough when your pee isn't dark yellow.  It should be rather light...Some say have your weight but in OZ and not LBS...so if you are 200 lbs, 100oz of water...

Hi,

Here's an article about water intake from the Mayo Clinic Web site (one of my favorite 'trusty' sites for medical information).  It might explain more about how much water we need but it doesn't help with all those embarrassing trips to the bathroom!!!

Water: How much should you drink every day?

Hey Everyone, I hope its goign good with the dieting and weight loss. I still havent been abe to really get going one of my big problems is that if I'm at school I can buy all sorts of different junk foods and i usually end up buying a poptart which is 400 CALORIES!!! And the worst part about it, it doesnt really fill me up. But i think that if i get  a fresh start with a new scale and stuff that I will be able to get on much better, right now I'm at 208 and I want to get to 160 by the beginnining of June which i know is a stretch but if im able to get into a good routine i think i can do it. Does anyone have any words for me?

Oh yeah and what kinds of scales do you guys have because I need a good one that is consistent which im having trouble with.

start with small changes...swtich the pop tart to a nutra grain bar...they are actually really good and since they are whole grain, much better for you and fill you up.  I think one is 140 calories...  Also, get moving.  Does your school have a gym you can use?

As for a scale, I use the digital Weight Watchers one.  Not sure how much it was, my DH got it for me.  I really like it and it matches (within a pound) the scale at my doctors and that differnce is n't really a differnce KWIM?

Hi, jeanus.  Don't let things get you down.  The fact that you are on this site shows that you are serious about your goals!

Those darn vending machines and snack stores are killer!  Especially for a young person such as yourself.

My recomendation would be to pick up a big bag of natural, unsalted almonds (very good for you) and any fresh dried fruits that you like.  We're talking raisins and dates here and not those artificially sweetened things like dried banana chips and sugared dried pineapple.  Fix a small baggie of these 'treats' to keep in your purse or backpack for times when you feel like munching.  I'll also bag up some dried cereals that are high in fiber.  Yes it's a little bit expensive but so are vending machines when you add up what you spend each week!

Do you find that when you eat those bad things from the machines, that you gobble them down and don't really take time to taste or enjoy them?  That's a BAD thing!  With the healthy snacks, eat them one little piece at a time and take time to savor the flavors.  Train yourself to make this a habit.

For motivation, is there a visual you can work with?  I had an old college sweetie that I wanted to see but not until I'd lost a lot of weight and felt better about myself.  I kept a picture of him in my wallet along with a picture of the fat me.  Whenever I was faced with a food temptation or didn't want to go to the gym, I'd pull out those pictures and remind myself of what was waiting for me when I reach my goal.  Of course my health is the number one reason for my journey but it those perks that come along with it (looking better, feeling better) don't hurt!

F.Y.I. -- I met my old sweetie after losing 150 pounds and it was GREAT!  We had a blast.  I've since had to come up with a new 'visual' to keep me going!!!

You can do it jean~.  It just takes motivation, dedication, patience, and well, you've heard it all I'm sure!

How's everyone doing today?

I had my class last night and it again really kicked my butt! What a great workout. I did cardio this morning for 45 minutes. I weighed in again today (does anyone else weigh daily?) I was down another lb to 195! YAY! Made me feel good! I know not to make to much out of the small fluctuations, but still made me smile :)

Another question, does everyone work out daily? I feel I need to so I don't feel lazy or start to slip, plus it just makes me feel better throughout the day. I do cut back somedays though and only walk 20-30 mins instead of my normal 45-60 mins. My husband told me that I really need to take a day off a week. Whats your opinions on this?

Checking in with everyone else.....

Tracy

One more thing to add.

When I got home from class last night, I walked into the kitchen and my hubby was just taking a pizza out of the oven. OMG!!!!!!!!!! It smelled SOOO good!! I probably could have had one piece, but I really didn't want to, I know I wouldn't have stopped at one, plus I wanted to test my willpower and SUCCESS!! I made some healthy choice soup and had a sugar free jello and went on my way. WOOHOOOO! It feels good to be that strong.

deko4...that is so great!  I do turbo jam that has saturday and sunday off.  it says if we want we can do on saturday but really encourages one day off a week at least.  but if it makes you feel good I don't see why every would hurt!

Hi everyone,

jeanus my scale is a *Thinner* model, digital measures weight, H2O, and body fat. I couldn't afford a top of the line scale folks praise on this site, but I am quite pleased with its consistency (lacking in my old elcheapo scale, may it rest in pieces).

I agree with all your buddies when they advise you to pack healthy alternatives to the vending machine you can take with you...and set yourself up for success, eat a healthy satisfying breakfast even if you have to get up early or go a little out of your normal routine to do so it will help carry you through and past these evil poptarts.

Doing good today a little frustrated with the weather. I like to get out and move around in nature, play with the hounds and such but it's been like 10 below for days now, Oh spring where is thy sting?

I appreciate everybody's comments and updates, so inspiring and motivating, I cannot express how empowering each one of you truly are.

Hi, I would like to join in.  I started at 242 in early January going to the Gym and eating better and I am now at 232.  My goal is to get down to 160.  I have a work out partner and we go everyday after work.  It is great to have support of someone who has a common goal.

Hi Bagga, what state are you in?? I'm in Iowa. So ready for spring here too.

Welcome Amanda! Looking forward to "meeting you"!

Tracy

Good Morning!  Are we all working out and eating well?  I just found out that I have not been eating enough calories.  CC had me eating 1300 but I was told that I need to actually eat my BMR (we get that from another site) and it was 1636!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is 300 more calories!!!!!!!!! What do you eat, what is recommened here or the BMR?  I am not really loosing eating the 1300 so maybe I do need to 1600 since I know that lower isn't the way to go????

Switched from learn & burn to 20 minute workout...I am SO uncoordinated :-)

It was 20 below zero when I left the house this morning.  I can't wait for spring either, I'm looking forward to taking my son for walks in his new little red wagon.  It's so cold I can barely drag my butt to the gym.  It's good I have someone to go with or I would probably skip out.
If had to leave the house I would NEVER go!
