Should I lower my calories?
I have been dieting since the middle of April, with great results, 20 lbs so far! Anyway, about a week ago, I started running. Well, since I have put about 1 1/2 lbs on. Now, I know that a lot of people are going to say that weight fluctuates and not to think anything about it. But, I have been weighing everyday, and know that my weight only fluctuates around that TOM, which I'm not right now.
Which brings me to my question. Is the weight gain a temporary thing from the new workout, or should I lower my cal intake? I am currently working out for about 30-45 min every day, for a total burn of 200-250 cal. I am currently eating between 1250-1300 a day. I was eating 1200, but raised it when I started to exercise. Does that sound like too much?
Thanks in advance for your help.
ETA: I weigh 133lbs and am 5'3".
New exercise can cause you to gain water weight (muscle repair). Without knowing your stats, it's hard to say, but in general, only a sedentary (and small) woman should be eating 1200, so since you are now more active, you shouldn't go as low as 1200.
Also, you've be eating an extra 50-100 cals for a week - that's not going to cause 1.5lb of fat gain.
Agreed here. You'll need to take in more calories once your exercise program progresses. You body will demand more, as your metabolism increases.
You should be eating about 300 calories less then what you are burning off. For example you burn 1600 a day and consume 1300 you will lose more. Studies have showed that if your within 300-400 calories of what you burn to what you intake your body looses more weight and is healthier. Eat many small meals and more fruits and veggies and you'll be great.
I'm 5'3" and 122 now. When I'm active, I still lose 1 - 2 lbs a week on 1600 - 1700 calories a day. I would recommend upping your calories and continuing your workouts.
You said it yourself: you`ve had great results. So if it ain`t broke, why fix it? ;) Eat back all the calories you consume through exercise, and mabe then some, and I`m sure you`ll go back to your previous weight loss pattern.
