I know celery is a negative calorie food because you burn more by chewing it than you consume by eating it but i was wondering if there were any others!
there's no such thing as a "negative calorie" food. The act of chewing celery burns about 5 calories... an hour.
However, most fruits & veggies are about as low-cal as you can get. =]
SVKAS-youre posting a lot of disturbing messages about curiosity regarding rapid weight loss and lowest cal foods, are you ok?
Yes, im doing this in regards with my friend...who is strictly just eating grapes and such for lunch.
okay, I hate to be cynical, but I don't believe you for a second. & I think you need to get off this website & get yourself some help.
& if by some amazing chance you are indeed telling the truth, you still need to get off this website & get some help for "your friend."
Either way, starvation is not & never will be cool.
okay dont believe me? too bad im telling the truth completely. ive been on this site for almost two years and i use this site for good reasons, make friends, learn healthy eating habits, and continue to maintain my weight from proper diet and exercise. i do not appreciate you throwing me off this website because i am trying to find out information to help diagnose my friend...

Then why did you make a post several days ago with the thread title "Why can't I lose weight >:-|"? From your stats I think you should be aiming to gain weight instead - I weigh a little more than you do and am an inch shorter, and people still tell me that I'm dangerously skinny =/ I think you should focus more on calorie-dense food rather than the supposed "negative calorie" foods. That's just my take ;]
because as it turns out my friend who now has an eating disorder weighed the same as me...so its making me feel like months and months of working out and eating healthy have been wasteful but im trying to find out info so i can eventually help her and have her eat different things at lunch, not for myself...i eat calorie dense foods...i have peanut butter on wheat everyday as well as oatmeal every other along with meats and other high calorie foods
According to what you posted in that topic, it seems like you're still looking to lose weight even though you're already underweight. And although you eat calorie-dense foods, it doesn't mean you're meeting a satisfactory daily quota of calories. Since you've stated that you eat 1200 a day. Maybe you should worry about yourself before being concerned about your friend?
- Kelp Noodles
- Konbu Noodles
- Yam Noodles
- Nori Sheets
- Bonito Flakes
I went to the doctor today and I asked about "negative" calories because I have been seeing it come up a lot on CC. He said all those foods are great for you but you NEED energy. He told me that "back in the day" there were celery diets, celery and onion diets, celery, onion, and carrot diets, but you can't stick to them because you need more substance. But he told me to increase in these foods (decrease carbs).
So I guess I'm saying that there are no "negative" foods because you can't surivie it thats all you eat.
how is asking for more ways of getting "negative" calories a help for your "friend"? Do you plan on helping her starve more?
let's be sincere here...that is not what the intention is, is it? Im not trying to point any fingers here, but there is something very FISHY about this post and others that you've made.
I just want to say that, I was anorexic, I am recovering as of the moment, and having the hardest time in my life to maintian/gain weight.
If I were you, or....if I were your "friend", I would not even think of coming here asking for that, but instead asking for direct help. Why does it make you feel bad that she lost weight the wrong way and reach your same weight if you supposely lost it the right way? I mean if I were you Id feel totaly accomplished, and I would take myself as an example and let her know that she can do it the right way, and not by starving.
just be careful, and dont post anymore threads finding out about low cal foods and such because that is no way to help anyone.
okay well yes bananee my friend losing weight has caused me to wonder why i havent but i actually since saturday increased my calories to 1600 a day...so its not like she has influenced me but i will take away her negative calorie foods from her and give her more dense foods like peanut butter on bananas for lunch
Eek - I don't like lists like this.
Healthier foods are less empty, thus filling us more.
Yeah - you can have tofu shirataki fettuccine alfredo for 81 calories; but how long are 81 calories SERIOUSLY going to hold someone?
I'd rather have a 400 calorie bowl of spaghetti and be satisfied for the night...
...but that's just me.
I think the best thing for you to do is eat fruits and vegetables--whether or not they are negative calorie foods.
Also, I read that all of those negative calorie foods are fruits & veggies anyway.
Hey, the negative calorie thing can be useful for only one purpose-for those of us who are trying to quit smoking and get the munchies that makes you to chew everything in sight including non edible things like pens, paper clips and junk like that .
I personally start chewing carrots whenever I feel like I have to have a cigarette. It's better than pencils.

Okay, even you yourself here are admitting that you want to lose weight...which you shouldn't do, according to your stats. I'm just saying, eat more than 1600 cals, don't eat too many "negative" calorie foods, and stay at a healthy weight! =]
i am really not getting this whole "negative calorie food" thing... a food can be low in calories but how would something be negative?
jenny- i'm not sure just people have told me that celery is a negative calorie food? not quite sure about it ha

The concept is supposed to be that the food is so low in calories that you burn more calories by chewing it than you take in from the food itself, and also the calories it takes for your stomach to digest it. The reason people say celery is a negative calories is because it is so low in calories they believe the calories they spend to eat it thus balances it out and makes it negative. The food still has calories, but I guess they don't count them because of this.
I am not saying is this is true or not, just telling you why they call it that.
