So I was hoping someone could help me decide what would have the least amount of calories on this menu: http://www.eggsnthings.com/SearchResults.asp? Cat=7

i'm guessing it would probably be something like the Scrambled Egg White with Vegetables omelet or the bran pancakes or something but please correct me if i'm wrong! The thing with the egg white omelet is that it comes with three pancakes on the side so would I just be better off just going with the pancakes so that I don't get both? Even though i'll get more pancakes that way?

I'm going with all of my extended family who never "special order".. and treat people weird that do. (They feel like its ridicuulous to knit pick but I won't get into that..) Anyways, the point is i'm trying to keep the special ordering to a minimum and more just go with what is on the menu.

Here is also a link to some pictures of the food there, just for a general idea of serving sizes and etc: http://209.216.121.111/v/photo_gallery/photos _oldlocation.html

and thank you in advance to everyone willing to help me out, you all are so great!

I agree that the egg white veggie omelet is your best low-cal choice. I know it comes with pancakes, but perhaps you can just split them with someone or take them home and give them to a family member or something.

But if you really want the pancakes, then just get them instead. It's a special day with your family and I think if you watch your portions, and eat carefully the rest of the day, it won't hurt you much (if at all).

I agree, it's one meal with family, so if you want the pancakes, get em! But is it really "special ordering" if you said "egg white omelet, hold the pancakes"?? That one's pretty quick and painless. I'm the same way, I try to keep it simple when I order out too, probably because my parents were always like "cheese burger, but can you make sure the cheese is under the burger and in no way touches the tomato, and can you put the ketchup on the side with the mayo, and ..." it was almost embarrassing, and the waitress almost always got their orders "wrong" No kidding!

Anyway, enjoy whatever you order!

Going out to eat is really scary! You'd be surprised how many calories even healthy sounding items, like bran pancakes, have. Plus, you normally put butter or syrup or toppings on pancakes. Could be a disaster lol.

You should read Eat This, Not That. Great book! I read the books every single day! They help to keep me on track, and they share some very surprising info.

I'd say your best bet is the egg white omlette as long as you don't eat the pancakes too! You can always ask for a side of whole grain toast instead of the pancakes. (That is what I do when I go out and get an omlette that comes with pancakes.)

And about your family, just ignore their negative comments. (My family pick son me for being so healthy too!) Just concentrate on how good you feel about doing something healthy for yourself! :)

thanks for the help everyone. I think i'll plan on ordering the egg white omelet with veggies and then if I really want the pancakes when I get there, then I WILL GET THEM..heck it is one breakfast! Some times I need help remembering that.

So if I were to crack and get the pancakes ;) would the bran pancakes be the best to get? calorie wise and nutrition wise? I'm pretty good with syrup as in I know not to drench my pancakes when I use it and I don't like butter. But as far as the kind of pancake? what do you guys think?

I don't think the buttermilk would have any more cals than the bran.  They are just plain.  You could also ask for sugar free syrup.  I think almost every restaurant has it.  That would save you about 200 calories right there.

Enjoy yourself, and don't worry about one day out :)

Yeah, buttermilk might even have less calories than bran pancakes. Maybe. Not sure. Things will surprise you sometimes.

And yes, I second the sugar free syrup idea! I absolutely loooove sugar free syrup. I've experimented with several. Smucker's Sugar Free is by far the best! It is really thick and you can't even tell the difference. I know you are trying to keep the "special ordering" to a minimum, but, hey! Special ordering is something I do everytime I go out and you just gotta do it sometimes to stay on track, despite what others around you think/say.

But as you said, it is only one breakfast. So as long as you don't blow the rest of your day (or week lol), then you probably could splurge.

Hope it is yummy, whatever you do eat! :)

Smuckers..Yes! That is what I use at home, and it is definitely the best :)

I was at the grocery store the other day shopping for a family breakfast I was making and was reading the labels of the pancake mix boxes and noticed that between regular pancakes and buttermilk pancakes - the buttermilk had more calories so I think you should compare the labels at your local grocery market between buttermilk and bran before your family breakfast outing because I was surprised by my findings

On the sugar-free syrup the best one I found is Hungry Jack. It is very sweet and I love it cuz I cant tell the difference. It is thick as well. I have never seen the Smucker's brand near the pancake syrup but I will keep an eye out for it.
