lowfat/sugar idea for dark chocolate lovers
I saw a "hot topic" question to Mary about about dark chocolate. There wasn't a comment section, so I figured I would post here. If you are a dark chocolate lover but want to avoid the sugar and fat, you can buy 100% coco powder (e.g. Green & Black Cocoa Powder is what I drink, but there are other good brands) and add it to fat free milk. You also get your calcium in that way too :) Wonderful on a chilly night!
I like hot cocoa too, but it couldn't replace chocolate if that's what I really wanted. A good quality dark chocolate is low in sugar anyway, and contains some healthy fat. If you are only eating a small portion, I say just buy the best quality you can afford, and then indulge.
I agree with meryl. I love hot cocoa, but when I want a piece of decadent dark chocolate, not event the best hot cocoa could sate my craving. We keep some bars of some of the best dark chocolate in the world (in my opinion). It is called Amadei and it is from Tuscany here in Italy. It costs about 6 euro for a bar, but it is so worth it. And, just one tiny 10 gram square usually sates the craving.
mmmm....that sounds soooo good. Last night, I discovered that The Second Cup coffee shop has a new Dark Chocolate Latte. I indulged, but now I can't find the nutrition info (calories especially) in that drink. I estimate it at about 400 calories for a large. It was delicious, but unfortunately I went over my daily calorie target by about 300. haahahaha....anybody know the exact nutritional content of that?
I might try adding cocoa powder to milk sometime. I didn't realize until today, but my skim milk has 12g of sugar per cup! That ought to be sweet enough.

I completely agree. That being said when I want something chocolaty and that can be spread on a toast I mix unsweetened cocoa, with fage yogurt. The portions are 60grams of Fage and 1 tbs of unsweetened cocoa, with couple big frozen strawberries on top, sliced.

I t'was not suggesting that we give up our cocoa butter my chocoholic freinds ;) I myself have many different brands of bars in stashed my fridge for an occasional indulgance. It was a suggestion for a more healthy option to get a chocolate fix, and for those who can't have or are looking to limit their fat/sugar intake.
UD Love that idea! I will have to try that... Mmm chocolate yogurt...
Oh, HagenDazz has a limited edition dark chocolate. Didn't get it so I can't comment, but it looked good.
