Macadamia Nuts

Can anyone explain why macadamia nuts get such a bad report here?  C+ I think for raw macadamias...

Probably just because they're a very high source of fat, but not a high source of protein like other nuts.

I get bad grades for foods that I know are good, like egg whites and raw shrimp...  By weight, if it has too much of anything bad (fat, cals, sugar, salt) it will get a bad grade, but you're probably not eating a cup of macadamia nuts, so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

they are higher in saturated fats, and this site seems to think sat fat is bad.

Which it isn't.

I always thought sat fats were the bad fats????

mono- and polyunsaturated are the "best fats", but sat fat in moderation is okay. Trans fats are the BAD fats

Ahhhh.... hardly any labels contain trans fats info.  I highly doubt that it is because they don't contain any.  Why don't they have to display trans fat info?

Moochew - If you see any oil that says "partially hydrogenated" before it, then those are trans fats. An example is partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, which is found in many processed foods.
