Macronutrients

Quote  |  Reply

This seems to be a really important theme to Lou. So I am taking it seriously. While I am cutting calories especially.

Do any of you gals track your macronutrients?

I try to get mine balanced 100%. Being the NOT numbers person that I am...I finally figured out how to translate the 40C/30F/30P ratios into grams...

Protein has 4 cal per gram
Fats have 9 cal per gram
Carbs have 4 cal per gram
Alcohol has 7 cal per gram

Let's figure out how many grams of each is required for us to be on target with our percentages in relation to our individual calorie requirement.

My Calorie Target: 1500

Carbs:     40% = 600 cal = 150g
Fat:        ;  30% = 450 cal = 50g
Protein:   30% = 450 cal = 112g

If you hit the analysis tab, it will show you at the top how many grams you have consumed of each one. This has really helped me to know if I am getting all my protein!

nannygabber, I think you have it wrong. You should be getting 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein.

My calorie targer - 1800/2000

protein:  540-600 kcal = 135-150 g

fat:  540-600 kcal = 60-67 g

carbs: 720-800 kcal = 180-200 g

I seldom hit the goal and usually end up somewhere around 25(f)-30(p)-45(c).

See... LMAO! THIS is why I need you guys! I just PROVED I am soooo not numbers oriented! Is there any wonder I'm not losing fat? LMAO... LET's REDO THIS!

EDIT: LOL - Fixed it! Thanks for catching that Maha!

I've been tracking macronutrients also for a while, but because I'm a vegetarian (though not vegan), unfortunately find it nearly impossible to get to a 40/30/30 split since so much of the protein comes as little carby bundles (beans, lentils etc).  I aim for 50/25/25 or 50/30/20 and that works pretty well too since the carbs are primarily legumes, vegetables and fruits.

I have to say that I feel way better since I started really focusing on getting a lot more protein.

I'm eating around 2000-2100 on non weights days and 2300-2400 on weights days and maintaining at 142(ish).
