what made you realize that you HAD to lose weight??

For me it was Christmas. The only thing I told my mother about Christmas presents was that I did NOT want clothes. And then not only did she get me almost entirely clothes, but they were in a size that I'm not comfortable mentioning even here. A lot of the clothes ended up not fitting (too big, just oddly shaped or both) but the fact that she would even estimate that I was that size shocked me into realizing I had to make a change.

What was it for you?

I love My Mother, butt i don't want to end up like her and i am way on the path of becomming her. My mum has diabetes, failing eye sight, failing kidneys and need to go to dialysis 3 times a week. Congested heart and blockage and needs to have surgery to unclog 3-5 arterys. Her circulation is poor and we went through and awful time starting with the toes. First the toes cut off, then the foot and now the leg up to the knee. When i walked in and saw her with her leg cut off, I GOT MY WAKE UP CALL. So sence my birthday i have started to cook from my 10 different weight watchers books and started walking, dusted off my treadclimber, and took out my pilates videos. SOOOoo here i go, so far i have lost 10 pounds. Then i had stumbled onto CC. WOW i am pumped. I can't wait to get everything entered and get a going like a mad woman. :)

I went in for my yearly physical and the doctor said "well, you have gained a few pounds, and I am hoping this won't be a trend every year.  It is very easy to let a few pounds stay on each year until you have a problem."  Pull out the niceties, it translated into "so, you haven't lost much weight after your 3rd child, who turns 3 this year, why don't you try a diet or something, fatso."  So, alas, I am here trying to make sure I never have to listen to a doctor tell me in politically correct terminology that I am getting fat.

When I got my arm stuck in my youngest daughter's pant leg while trying to turn it right side out!!  When your arms are fatter than a teen's legs you need to lose weight!!

A couple of things for me.  I did not feel attractive any more, even though I tried to tell my self it didn't matter at my age.  I don't like being ignored - like heavy people can be by others.
Another major reason is that I started to have problems with my skin breaking down under the rolls of fat- yeah, actually red weepy skin rashes.  That was when I said ENOUGH.

In 2006, my 10 year old brother was diagnosed with type I diabetes (juvenile onset). To support him I began paying better attention to what I was eating.

I still didn't know what I was doing, apparently, because my work pants were getting tight on the butt, my armpits were sweating too much, my work belt was too tight (causing breathing problems) and I was very self-conscious about it since I work in a fish bowl.

So, instead of requesting a larger sized uniform from my employer (the shame), I opted to improve my health with research (no more myths!). Hence, CC.

As a bonus, I have learned a lot about the effects of sodium (I finally saw the enormous amounts I was taking in). Since I've cut WAY down on sodium, increased my potassium and drink more water, my belt no longer cuts off my breathing and the sweating under my arms has greatly decreased. I've also lost a bit of weight and am further motivated to work my way to the low end of my BMI range by way of smaller portions and a balanced diet. Looks like I'll be requesting a new uniform afterall...a smaller one. heh heh.

I have more to lose than yourself.  My pants, well, let's just say they are getting looser :X!  I am losing.... finally!

I wanted a "diet" that was liveable, and it took me what seems like forever to find the right one for me that stresses journaling, good eating, and working out, which I know is smart.

I purchased, on Amazon.com, a workout collection that causes no injuries from a qualified instructor, that's also fun.  I am working on trying to cut out stress that causes problems.  I am trying to take a good daily vitamin regimen that will actually work.  I am incorporating more water and liquids in my diet to avoid problems.

I just started this recently, let's see what happens. I have only lost water weight, I have 45 to go.
