5'4" maintaing v. dieting calories

For females out there within the 5'4" range either dieting or maintaining: how many calories are you consuming on a daily basis (just trying to get an idea) (lifestyle and current weight?)???

5'4", 110, moderately active; 1000-1,600.

Almost 42 years old, 5'3.75" just got to 133.  Want to maintain the weight/lose the "jigglies".

I eat around 1400-1600/day, exercise hard 3x/week, not so hard or not at all the other days.

I don't always track my calories on the weekends, I'm kind of "zig-zagging" my calories that way and that helps keep the weight off.

I started out at 151.4 at the beginning of March, and losing almost 20 pounds in 3.5 months has been wonderful for me.  I'm finally taking care of my body the way I'm supposed to and it feels great!

Hope this helps!
5'4 - 127lbs - weight training and cardio 5 times a week - losing - 1300-1500 calories per day.

105.6 pounds maintaining

I eat about 1900-2200 cals a day depending how much exercise I do.

Oh, and daisyg, I wouldn't recommed that "I know I should eat more when I run but I dont" attitude. One of my friends dad was a marathonist, and he didn't really eat back what he burned.

One day he had a headache and the next second he was dead. yeah.

Hey there!

I am your twin!! I am 5'4" and 110 and eat 1,800-2,000 calories just to maintain my weight.  If I eat any less than 1,800 cals I lose weight.

5'4.5", currently at 149 - 150lbs, actively trying to lose (have lost 24 lbs this year), eat 1450 - 1600, exercise 6 days a week, active lifestyle

5'4", maintaining between 110-115, 1200-1800 calories depending on exercise level

21 yrs

5'4", 103lbs, 1800-2000 calories to maintain

not much cardio, 15 minute strength training every other day

33 y.o.,  5'4", 122ish.  My start weight was 150ish.

~ 1700 - 2000 cal/day, trying to slowly build a little muscle but not gain too much weight.

21 year old female, 5’4 112 lbs,  maintaining, 1700 - 1800 a day

Do Pilate’s for about 45 minutes 4 - 5 days a week and body pump once a week.

Sedentary apart from daily Pilate’s.

I eat about 2100 calories once a week on the day I do body pump to compensate for the calories I burn.

A smidge over 5'4, 119 lbs, maintaining on 2500-3500 cals.

Erm, yeah. I bike a lot. >_<; Of course, I never used this site for dieting...I used it for weight recovery, so that *might* have effected my caloric needs, too.

I'm 5 3 and half. I weigh around 120lbs (though I've gained a 1-2 since the holiday started). When I am trying to lose weight I eat around 1500 calories a day and that gives me a pound weight loss a week. When I'm maintaining I eat around 2,000 calories a day. Regardless of if I'm losing or maintaining I try to do cardio everyday for 45 minutes. I would rather exercise more then worry about every little thing I eat, and I honestly hate feeling hungry. I also eat most of meals outside so there are definitely days when I go way above 2,000. I let my clothes be the judge of how I'm doing.

I'm about 5'3, weigh in and around 110.  I exercise 6 days a week, eat about 2100 calories a day.  Slightly less during the week so that I can eat slightly  more on fri/sat and not worry about it.

I really like this thread; it's amazing how diverse we 5'4-ers are!

I'm 5'4 and have been maintaining at exactly 121 (I weigh myself  in the morning or midday, with clothes on, shoes and coat off) since early October. I'm 27 years old and had previously lost about 12 pounds between mid-July and early October of 08.

I lost the weight at about 1800 calories per day, and have maintained it at about 2500 calories per day. I'm lightly active and work out 3--4 times a week.

I know it's unusual to maintain this weight at my height with so many calories. It's very possible I'm overestimating my calories; I eat out at restaurants a lot, probably more than I cook at home, and when calculating my calories I consider the ingredients in the dish but usually add a few hundred to account for the oils etc that the restaurants may add.

Ideally I would love to be in a kind of maintenance/loss period, where I lose weight at a rate of 1 pound every two or three weeks and keep it off. It would be fun to be 114 like I was in college...

These  days, by logging my calories, I let myself eat whatever I'm craving but am also forced to think about the quantities (something I absolutely never did when I was ten pounds heavier).

I'm 5'3.5", 113lbs and 28 years old. I'm trying to lose 5lbs of fat off my butt and thighs and tone my whole body. I used to be sedentary, now I work out 4 times a week cardio + strength training. I eat 1200 calories on my off days, and 1400 on my workout days.

5'4", 34 years old, Female, 135 lb

run 3- 4 x week, elliptical + weight training 2 x week.

eat around 1600-1800 a day with more like 2000/day on the weekends.  Seem to be maintaining pretty well so far.

WTF! It is not ok to promote eating disorders! It is ethically irresponsible/reckless/wrong AND specifically against the rules of this forum. WTF is wrong with you? Several of you?!?!

"AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GIVES A SH** ABOUT THE RULES????"

Is all just totally lost in the world? Are we doomed to live lives of unsatisfaction and starvation?!??!

My faith is seriously waivering ladies!

I just wanted to bold that, repost it, and THANK YOU for saying that, freshbakedpi (I don't agree with the laugngauge of it, but the jest of it is unfortunately spot-on).

This thread is dangourous for those prone to EDs and it's only making this generation look really sad. We're gonna have a really pathetic future at this rate, guys!! We can all make good choices...one of them being to fuel our bodies!

Whilst some of you are eating appropriately for your age, height, weight, gender and activity levels the level of violations of the posting guidelines - which you agree to both in making your account and posting on these forums EVERY time you post - has gotten out of hand.

The minimum intake for a sedentary female over 21 is 1200 calories per day. For a sedentary female under 21 or a man over 21 it is 1500 per day, and a sedentary male under 21 1800 per day. And believe it or not, that’s only the sedentary minimum. Unless you are very, very short and small it is very likely you will need even more calories than those minimum guidelines.

If you are 21 or older use CC's tools to work out your BMR so you have a number to work from for your diet: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-bur ned.php. If you are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator instead: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html as you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.

Eating too low a calorie intake, or having a deficit from your BMR greater than 1000 results in something called "survival mode", where your body holds every last thing it can get in expectance of a famine. Water, food, calories. Explained:

  • Dieting & Metabolism - This article explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter productive.
  • The Body Neglected - This is what happens when you undereat for an extended period of time.

The physical dangers that come with undereating are numerous. You put yourself at risk of osteoporosis, of loss of fertility if you lose your period, hair loss, electrolyte problems, a weakening of the immune system, low blood pressure, blood disorders such as anemia, heart problems, and even death. The mental woes that come alongside can be just as devestating. Depression is common in undereaters, as well as distorted perceptions and problems like Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

Many of you are describing a disordered eating pattern even if you claim otherwise and this is something you need to talk to your doctor about even if just to hear a professional opinion on top of CC. Crash dieting will do nothing to help you lose weight as the weight will likely come straight back on, and undereating can easily do more damage than good. Think about it - your health or your vanity? Weight is easily lost if you do it in a healthy and sustainable manner which is what CC is all about.

If you want some online support try http://www.something-fishy.org, and take a look through CC's Eating Disorders Health, Resources and Info Thread. But your most immediate concern is your health - and for that that means you need to talk to your doctor before you begin dieting again as your mentality should be your priority. But know this: Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management and if you are not seeking to manage your weight healthily we cannot and will not help you.
