Maintaining at 160 pounds
NO offense to everyone who is out there and working toward a goal... I know how all the calculators work... I know what the literature says... but I want to know about anyone in "real" life... *lol*
I know that my mom, who is a conditioned athlete, 56, 5'8 and does about two triathlons a month... says that she can only eat about 1400 calories a day to maintain weight at 145 pounds.
I'm 5'8... work out about an hour a day... and am nowhere near a "healthy weight" yet... however... from someone who actually has similar stats... (not just using a calculator...) How many calories do YOU eat on average at 5'8, 160 pounds, relatively sedentary lifestyle, with 60 minute a day/ 500 cal workout?

tamara, i'm a "real" life maintainer who is 61 y.o., 5'10" and other than housework, and 3x a week at curves and occasional walking, i am not really very active, running triathlons or anything. at 150 lbs i am burning 2100 cals per day, so i find it hard to believe that your mom only eats 1400 cals per day. i have been maintaining and logging for one year at that weight, so i am very sure of those numbers. i wouldn't think that two inches of difference in height would be that significant, but maybe someone who is only 5'8" will disagree.
1400? I don't think so.. honestly, sounds like either a fake number or she is just undereating. Triathloners would need a lot more than that, on training days or competing days.
tamarascholtz, i read your profile and it made me cry. I'm so proud of you! I know this has nothing to do with your post, but I had to say it. :)
avgpunk: Yea... I tell her she's a liar all the time.. .*lol*.. .I'll be over at her house and see her grab a handful of raisins.. and go imeediately over to the fridge and eat a chunk of swiss cheese... and five minutes later she's got a handful of nuts..... and I KNOW she doesn't journal... so I think her estimates are crap!!! She couldn't maintain at 135 even with the amount of workout... but she's a 5'8, 56 year old athlete... I think she should be happy at her 150!!!!
missy_ Thanks... that's so sweet! We all have our stories, tho.. .huh? I'm proud of all of us for making a commitment to ourselves.

I'm 5'8, 146 lb and workout for an hour a day and walk for about 40 mins. Think that I maintain around 3000 cals. I lose weight at about 2100, although it seems to vary a lot. The most reliable numbers I know are for when I don't workout I lose about 2lb/week eating 1700 cal/day. Which I assume means I should maintain at 2700.
