Maintaining Teens!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi there. I have lost quite a lot weight, gone from 155 lbs to 105 lbs. My goal is/was 100 lbs, but now I feel like I should start maintaining right here and right now.  Im both excited and nervous.

So could you other teens, who are maintaining their weight successfully, tell me some things... Like how many calories can you maintain on, how much do you exercise, or do you count calories at all? Does your weight fluctuate, can you have your "splurge days"? How did your moving from losing to maintaining go?

I know my calorie needs wont be the same as someone's who's like 5'4 or at a different weight, but Im just curious. A while ago I tried out upping my caloric intake to 1700, and first it worked like magic and I kept loosing. But it felt like I was overstuffing myself all the time. I was physically and mentally uncomfortable all the time, but kept eating that much and losing... However, it turned around after a week and I started gaining steadily for a while. So I went back to eating my BMR, but havent lost very much anymore lately...Last week I didn't lose an ounce. I know I shouldnt be maintaining on my BMR, considering I walk 60-75 minutes every day...

No, you shouldn't be maintaining on your BMR.  This can be a sign that you were under-eating to lose the weight, and now your metabolism has slowed down.  I'll put this in very simple terms, since I know the medical lingo can get confusing for teens.  You need to raise your calories and stick with it even if you gain a little weight.  It's the only way that you are going to get your body to re-set your metabolism.

Since you are a teen, Calorie Count's calculators would not be accurate for you.  Below are some links that you should check out that are geared towards teens.

also, at 110. But when I try to up my calories
I am too full and miserable. I don't
    know what to do either.
