Actually, 140 is my target, but it sounds so much better to say "under 140". Anyway, I've lost about 50 lbs. over the last 2.5 years, which wasn't all that hard. Seems like maintaining is harder. Maybe we can share strategies/experiences with this.
Sealion~ Hey, we're all pretty similar! I'm glad you realized you weren't healthy and changed your life to just be healthy and not too skinny. My history is a bit different... my highest was a few years ago at about 200 lbs. When I started CC last year in February I was in the mid 180's and have lost over 50 lbs! My goal now is to be healthy and put on some muscle. That's cool that you love to run! I ran for a bit, but I'm just not much of a runner at all... I did the Couch to 5k to learn to run, but after I finished I kinda quit running (except invervals on the treadmill here and there). Congrats on maintaining so far!
Snow~ What up, girl? =) You are doing great too!! Yeah, you're right... I was hoping for that 130 today, but I can deal with it. I'll get there someday. ;) We CAN do this! Well, we HAVE been doing this for awhile now! We go back and forth, but keep ending up back where we want to be.
not really, k9... i finally just recently went below 134, so i'm gonna stay down here with you now! :D
going back & forth is great with these numbers! isn't it hard to imagine that you ever were 200? and me, 218? hehe
yep... and we both lost & are maintaining by eating all our favorite foods! just not like before... obviously!
i walked 3 miles today & did a few sets of 15 wall push ups, one set of 15 girl & one set of 20 wall! i'm getting stronger already. i WILL do better tomorrow!
of course, i had a bad eating day. i only got a B. i usually don't even log, but i logged this! we went to BK today & i had a whopper with cheese, large fries, mozzarella sticks & a cookie. earlier i had a bag of tater skins too, so my intake was like 2500. i had a banana, apple, orange & 2 servings of salad to help balance the bad food out. ;) maybe i'll go grab some celery...
K9: for me, running is just such a great release. And I feel so accomplished after each and every run. It's something I have always wanted to be good at, but never was. I would run for a couple months and give it up, and then I just decided, screw this, I'm gonna be good at it! And now, I am. Check one goal off the goal list I guess!
morton: 2500 cals with burger king in there? IM IMPRESSED lol. I tend to eat around 2000, withOUT any burger king lol. I don't log anymroe either.. I pretty much can do it all in my head now, ya know? lol. What's weird is that I used to LOVE fast food, then after i became healthy, it now really grosses me out. But don't get me wrong, I still like "bad" foods, just not drive thrus :) Like last night was mexican night out with mom-3 shrimp soft tacos+refried beans and yellow rice, and some chips n salsa. MMM. And tonight was seafood night-flounder with crabmeat+shrimp stuffing and a baked tater. At least its balanced I guess lol.
I actually haven't weighted myself in a few days. I missed my period for some weird reason so i have been super bloated, so I decided once that goes away I'll weigh. I'm also nervous cuz I'm going on a getaway with the bf and another couple this weekend to his house on martha's vineyard. The boys looove **** food, and sometimes I can't help but binge on peanut m&m's and tostitos and wiiiine with them. Especially when were cuddled up next to the fireplace movie watchin' all day. And I know they'll just make fun of me if I bring my own "healthy food" like fruit and veggies and hummus and stuff. grrr. oh well...any suggestions??
ps. i love this group already
Snow~ *shakes head* You're a bad girl!! Burger King??! 2500 isn't bad considering what you ate... I'm amazed it wasn't more than that. At least you ate some healthy stuff too. ;) Oh, and good job continuing the push-ups and the walkiing!! You go girl!
Sealion~ I really wish I could love running... I think I'd end up hurting myself. I have a knee that's kind of finicky sometimes and if I ran a lot, it might end up badly, if ya know what I mean. ;) I feel awkward when I run... did you feel that way when you started? Hopefully the missed period doesn't become a regular thing for you... I had been missing them and now I'm starting to get them again, but they're irregular. The Dr. discovered that I have a hormone imbalance and that's why, so now I need to go on birth control again. *sigh* I hate being on BC, it makes me so crazy (bad mood swings, etc). Hopefully it'll work better for me this time around. *crossing fingers* Hope you have a great time on your getaway, I'm jealous! Sounds awesome. Oh, don't mention the PB M&M's around me... we're old enemies. I used to stuff myself sick on those things back in the day... could eat a whole bag at one sitting. Ugh. Still salvating at the thought of them though, but haven't had any in over a year! I guess the only suggestion I have for you is this: everything in moderation. Allow yourself to have a little of everything, but don't overdo it and don't sit down w/the whole bag/box of anything. Have a good time!! :)
As for me, I am sooo sore today! Muscles I didn't even know I had are hurting! Today was my rest day so i only walked the dog and am taking it easy today so my muscles heal and I can beat them up again tomorrow. I'm getting a bit nervous that I'm going to gain some weight from the lifting, but everyone is telling me that my muscles are holding water to heal and that it weill eventually level out again. It's so hard to see the scale go up though, I don't want it to!
sealion, that's awesome how you can run & it makes you feel great! i always wanted to be able to run, too, but not now. i just don't want to take the chance of getting hurt. i did actually run yesterday, though. i guess you inspired me! :D
during my 4 miles of walking, i pumped it up to 4.5 here & there. i ended up running for 8 minutes! the times were split up, like 3, 1, 2 & 2 minutes each. i did it at the start of each mile & 4.5 isn't that fast anyway.
LOL sealion, you'll learn SOON that morton would never eat like that. hehe burger king for morton... that was me. i know i shouldn't have done it, but whatever. i'm keeping in check here. balancing out my day with good stuff & trying to watch how much i eat.
133 today! i ate alot yesterday, too, and i ate late. it must be from the walking, weights & push ups. :D the push ups are new. i couldn't even do one before! well, ever!
bring your own healthy food anyway! tell them that you like it. well, and a little binging won't hurt, i'm sure. just be sure to get some sort of exercise in & have a great time! you probably won't even mess up, but if you do, we're always here. omg... pb m&m's... i love those things!
k9, i know! geez... i figured that would be way more calories than that, but i checked it & that's all it was. that was alot of fat, though. yeah, your knee could suddenly buckle & you'd be done. :(
LOL me too! i'm wondering if i'll gain from lifting & doing these push ups. i figured if i haven't yet, i probably won't. if i see 135, i'll probably freak out & eat less & walk more. i feel so weird, though! i already feel all these muscles that i never felt before. at least if the scale goes up, we'll know it's muscle. :D AND muscle burns more calories!
Morning all! :)
Yeah, my weight is up to 132.4 this morning, but I still think my muscles are holding in some water since they're still sore. I'm going to wait until later today to lift again so I get a bit more rest in. I checked my body fat % on the scale and I think it's down just a smidge... it was an even 24% today and yesterday i know it was more than that. So, if I go up in weight a bit, but my body fat % goes down, it's all good. I'll be happy to be a solid 135 or 139 if I have less fat and more muscle. I guess the number isn't all that important. I should focus more on being healthy and not fighting the scale so much. Know what I mean? ;)
yep! i sure do. we're all in the same boat. i don't know what my body fat is, but i'm sure it's high. i'm working on that & i think these weights & push ups will help that more than the walking.
more muscle, less fat! for sure... even if it means weighing more.
Hey guys..
weird! I just got my body fat % measured today! 19.4%...I guess that's good? Plus I was down a pound this morning woohoo magic 134! unfortunatley that led to a mid afternoon cookie treat (just 2 chocolate chips...btu they were kinda big). Thats ok though... I also did VO2 max testing today and the guy put me through HELL I almost hyperventilated on the treadmill. They start you walking and then every 3 mins. increase the pace (so for 3 min I walked at 3.5 then3 min at 4.5 then 3 mins at 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5...)and I was DYINNN at 8.5 but he's like noooo you didn't max out yet so I figure he' just gonna up the speed, which I thought I could do, but no, he ups the INCLINE..so I scream and he has to hold my back so i dont fall off the treadmill. Ridiculous..and somehow, still didn't reach my max!!! But apparently I was close, I dunno, who knows lol. Next week Im getting RMR and then the week after all the results (keep ya updated). It was my xmas present to myself!
A scale that does body fat %... that sounds awesomeee where do you get those and how much?
Oh, and now this weekend is so up in the air because my bf's grandpa got ssick with bacterial pneumonia AND norovirus, which is contagious so I think we will have to skip it :( waaah.
How old are you guys...and how tall? Im only 23 so my knees are still good-to-go lol. But I find it interesting that I am the youngest girl training with the team for the marathon. Alot of them are older, mid40's or 50's and alot of them, never runners before. So it's def possible!
Snow: congrats on the run today...that's awesome. I bet you'll keep pushing yourself and soon enough be running more than walking. That's what heppend to me, it became like a little chllenge game and I didn't even realize I was doing it! And push-ups..wootwoot! I DESPISE strength training. I only do it if I go to a class at the gym, which I never have time for, aka, I never do it. lol
K9: yea, I felt EXTREMELY awkward when i started. Like I was a horse..I would only run in secluded neighborhoods or on my treadmill at my mothers in her basement lol. But eventually, I either stopped being awkard or stopped caring--leaning toards the latter. And I'm on BC for a hormone imbalance too!!! (they think its polycystic ovaries, but who knows)
ooook I think thats enough. bye guys happy weekend!
Snow~ I'm so glad you know what I'm talking about, we're so similar in so many ways! We're gonna get buff together! :)
Sealion~ Wow, I'd say that's a pretty good body fat %! See, you're a nice lean runner, just what I figured. Wish my body fat % was that low, but hopefully with the strength training it will get there. Wow, that VO2 testing sounds EXTREME! I think I'd die, lol. Sounds like you did great, good for you!!
The scale brand I have is Tanita... I bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond for around $50. It stores settings for two people, so you can program in your height, etc. and it will measure your weight, body fat % and % of water. I really like mine, it's the best one I've ever had so far.
Sorry to hear about your bf's grandpa! Also, bummer you have to skip your trip.... just think of all the calories you'll be saving. LOL
I am 28 years old and just about 5'7", to answer your question. :) Guess there's hope that this horse can still learn to run! LOL!!
Oh, forgot to add about the hormone imbalance - I have very, very tiny little cysts in my ovaries, probably same as you. They found them when I had my pelvic ultrasound... nothing to worry about though. Just another sign of the hormone imbalance. Small world!
i think 19.4 body fat is great, but i dunno. lol i just know i have too much! my weight is good, but fat is another story. i just lost 86 pounds though, so some of this i'm sure is loose skin, but not all of it.
congrats on our magic number, 134! them cookies sure sound great. i met hubby for lunch again today & we went to a chinese buffet. i'll probably be up again tomorrow. who cares! i'm in my safe zone.
wow! that VO2 test sounds horrible. holy cow! you weren't dead yet at 5.5? oh, that's right... you run. LOL i'd be dead! and that was a present... hehe i got myself a present today! i got a polar F-11 heart rate monitor! i don't even need it now. i should've had it when i was 218, but what the heck. it sounds like a nice toy. maybe hubby will want to use it, too.
sorry about your bf's grandpa. that rots! i'm 5'7" and i'll be stinkin' 51 next saturday. :( wow! there are even people in their 50 running in that marathon that never ran before?! that's awesome!!!
nah. i'll never push myself at running. it's the risk of injury. i'll just add a little when i'm walking now & then. running is hard anyway! i sure hope i don't hurt myself doing push ups. i think i'm safe there. hehe
it's so funny that we all found each other. this is awesome! yeah, we are so alike in alot of ways. i always wanted a scale that tells body fat, too. that's ok, though. i'm probably better off not knowing. :D
i've been too busy today to get in any exercise! hopefully later i can squeeze some in.
Hey Snow! Ugh.. just got home from working all day! I was sooo busy, I had 11 dogs!!! One of them scratched my arm all up and she kept trying to bite me, so I had to send her home w/her face not completely finished. *sigh* I am sooo beat! Just waiting for hubby to get ready so we can go out to dinner... think we're going to Applebee's. I'll probably be pretty good though and get something off the Weight Watcher's menu they have. Oh, and congrats on that new "toy"! I have the F-11 too!! Yet another thing we have in common, lol. I have the light blue one and I love it! Now that I'm lifting it's not as vital a tool for me, but it's still nice to have. How you like yours so far?
wow! 11 dogs? i'll bet you see alot of cuties & some pretty nasty ones too, huh? LOL the poor thing... i guess you had to send it home!
applebees! awesome.
OMG! you have the F-11? is it awesome? i know i've heard that it is, but i can't remember if it was from you. is it hard to learn how to use it and/or set it up?
i should have waited. LOL i got a gray one. oh well... at least i finally broke down & bought it! i didn't get it yet. i ordered it online. it was supposed to be some super deal, but it was $133 with free shipping. is that what you paid? i probably could have just got one here instead for the same price.
i'm so excited though! i was kinda worried about telling hubby, but he took it fine. :D he just smiled & said 'that's good'.
Yeah, Applebee's wasn't all that good... IMO it's really gone downhill. We thought we'd give it a try again for something different, but I still would rather go other places. At least we went out and spent time together. :)
The F-11 is a pretty neat little tool.... my hubby had gotten it for me for my b-day. He got it online too on ebay, but I don't remember exactly what he paid for it. I'm pretty sure he got a good deal though. It wasn't too bad to setup, but the hubby helped me.... I think the OwnIndex (not sure if that's the right name, lol) part is the toughest to get setup, but once it is, it's not bad. I'm sure you'll like it. ;)
It's always great when you think the hubby is going to be mad you bought something and then they just smile! LOL
Just want to say hello and welcome to Sealion and Bairn, even though it's not quite time for my Monday weigh in. Guess this thread is mis-named since nobody wants to be 139, just low to mid 130's, which seems great for me. I've been eating a few more sweets than usual, so I'm going to have to watch it tomorrow and probably do a 1 hour walk. Even though the holidays are over, the rough winter makes dieting a challenge since there's not a lot to do. Still snacking on pretzels, but every once and a while, a pixie sneaks in there. Those little sweets are a killer. Have a great rest of the weekend.
bummer, applebees wasn't that good? i hardly ever go there, but i hope it's still good here. yeah, it sure is nice just going out & spending time together anyway.
oh good! lol i hope the setup isn't a problem. that would suck. i can't wait to get it! yeah, i was shocked when hubby did that. LOL
hey morton! yeah, you should change the heading for the board. you just edit it, don't you? low to mid 130's is sweet! i didn't think i'd ever make it here, with my family & all. LOL but it sure feels great!
i want to walk today, too, AND do my pushups. i was too busy yesterday & today i only did 30 wall pushups so far. it's only noon, though. :D
i need my sweets too, but just have 'em in moderation. you won't have any problem, i'm sure.
Hey Morton, glad to hear you're doing well! I know, those little sweets can be killer, that's why I go for the big sweets, lol. ;) Hope you have a good weigh in tomorrow!
Snow, good job on keeping up with those push-ups! You go girl!!!
yep! i walked 2.5 miles & did another 36 & 30 wall push ups. then i did 20 regular. man... my arms are sore! it's worth it, though :D
i gotta grab them weights again! it's been a few days, i think. hubby is home though, so i'll wait.
137 this morning. I think it was the Pixies. Only 1 meal out over the weekend and that was breakfast with my wife on Friday. Looks like a quiet week and no kids around so there shouldn't be too many sweets and I should get my run or walk in every day. We are really lucky to have a nice, free indoor track 10 minutes away. Applebees does sound good and they have the small portions too. We do have some restaurant gift cards to use maybe for VDay. Will try for 135 next Monday. Good luck with the low 30's. Have a great week.
morton, maybe you're 137 because you have been eating more & if that is so, it's great! i wouldn't even 'try' for 135 next monday if i was you. just keep eating how you are & your body WILL adjust to that. that's what i did! :D
my birthday is saturday, so i'm sure we'll be going out to eat. maybe we'll actually do something, too! LOL that would be nice...
51! yuck...
133 today
Morton~ I think you're fine to stay at 137, why not? It's a good number and you're a guy, you don't want to be too scrawny, lol. ;) You're so lucky to have a free indoor track! I'm jealous! I haven't weighed in a few days, so I may be more in the mid 130's to upper... not sure. Trying to only weigh once a week now. Gotta cool it on the scales.
Snow~ Congrats on the 133! Your b-day is getting close!! My hubby's is next Monday... probably going out to dinner somewhere I'm sure. Trying to decide if I should get him a small cake or not... hmm. Hope your hubby does something nice for you!!
Not sure what I weigh, but maybe I'll weigh in tomorrow or Wednesday... trying to stay off the scales for awhile. Don't want to focus too much on the number.
