Major life changes, lead to need for weight loss

Quote  |  Reply

Since graduating college two years ago, I began working at the least inactive job I have ever had, along with moving, and having most of my closest friends move away.  Previous to graduating I weighed 130, now I'm into my third year at my job, where food flows free and frequent, and I have gained almost 30lbs.  I have been on the site for less than a week and realize how much I am actually eating.  After looking up a few items I eat frequently, I noticed I was eating almost 3-4 times as many calories as I need.  What a wakeup call!!!  I felt I had no control over what I chose to eat.  Even after a few days here I realize its a decision, not a necessity to eat bad food.  I have never been one to like sweets, but my downfalls include, CHEESE!!!! (and lots of it), fried foods, and chips.  I could resist a table filled with cakes, cookies, and candy, but chips have no chance against me.  My mother was recently diagnosed with diabetes, which leads me to understand I need to lose weight now, before some medical issues can find me.  I am thankful I found a place to chart what I'm doing, and hope its all downhill from here, well, the weight at least!

Hello and welcome to Calorie Count!
We are very similar. I am shorter than you though :) (4'9"!!)
I LOVE the chips, but I love the cakes and cookies too. Before CC I ate WAY too much stuff and was eating 3-4x my daily caloric needs as well.
I never exercised either.

Once I started logging my food and realized what I was doing it was such an eye opener.
I have learned to appreciate the sweets at treats and I LOVE to exercise now.

You will find this site is full of AWESOME support in addition to the great tools.
I am so glad to meet you and I hope you are liking things so far.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions :)

Welcome aboard!

I join you in your love for cheese. May I suggest Laughing Cow Light Gourmet Mini Cheese Bites? Just 7 calories for each little, individually-wrapped, sugar-cube sized square. (The perfect amount for a cracker!) I eat 10 of them (70 calories) on 10 Quakers Quakes mini rice cakes (70 calories) ... for a great 140 calorie cheese-and-cracker snack!

Kraft fat free sharp cheddar singles aren't bad, either.

Welcome!
