I was reading through best of craigslist and saw this post: http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/njy/1284 564684.html

I've had a Pom for 9 years and when I got to #35 I literally burst into tears.

Oh, wow...the same best of craigslist post? I didn't even see it & I'm on here practically every day!

Edit: Nevermind...I searched the threads & I found it. You started the thread! Can't help but be touched by it, huh?

As I said, I'm not even a dog lover.  If I were even tempted to buy purebred I like to think that I'd still go for a mongrel from the pound.  Innocent

I'm not really one to cry, but I understand what you are asking.  I never liked children or animals.  Then I had children.  Now I have animals, as well.Tongue out

Can't help but wonder how long the line is, of people who need to be slapped who inspired such a list to even be generated.

I love that list.  I work in dog rescue.  It sounds bad and unprofessional, but I don't really care....we sit around and talk about the worst callers of the week.  The dumbest dog owner.  Who shouldn't even have been allowed to get a dog and we hope they don't have children.  Yep.  We do.  It helps us deal with the stress of walking into a shelter with five dogs to a pen and only being able to save ONE.  It seems like EVERY person that calls somehow thinks their situation is unique but we hear the same stories over and over.

To be fair...there are honest situations where a dog and a family just aren't compatible.  It happens.  There are situations where life happens.  Life happening isn't the same as being a bad pet owner.

dogs are annoying and require too much attention. they also smell. the list was a bit sad but true.

So says someone who is very young and probably doesn't have a real understanding of what responsibility is yet...I'm sure I thought similarly when I was your age

P. S. Karma's gonna get you...bet you step in some dog poo soon, lol

I'd say as long as Enzyme here doesn't actually own a dog, everything is fine.

wow I have had dogs all of my life.  I now have a cat and a dog I love them but the hair is too much.  We don't have kids yet but I will never get rid of my animals bc we have kids......I mean really.  I hate the excuses.

we need strict spay and neuter laws, breeder laws, etc.  I mean seriously....these things are unacceptable.

My neighbor was on her way to school when she saw this black german sheperd looking dog running in the streets, she pulled over and called the dog.  the dog practically crawled to her bc she was sooooooo scared.  she then hopped into her car and she took the dog home with her.  Turns out she had a micro chip so they scanned her and tried to contact the family, she left 12 voicemails with no reply.....if you don't want her take her to a rescue or a shelter...jeeze! The one was lucky!

Actually I agree with enzyme and I am most certainly not young and I fully understand what responsibility is.  As a result, I don't have a dog.  I do have cats, but I fully realize that not everyone likes cats as much as I do and respect their right to not want anything to do with my cats.

I dunno...I get suspicious of people that don't like animals, especially dogs. How can you not like dogs? I can understand not liking a particular breed or something like that, but not liking them as a whole? What I have seen/experienced is that people that think like enzyme are usually young, but to each their own, ya know?

Some of my reasons dogs are better than humans (this is meant to be tongue-in-cheek):

1. Unquestionable loyalty

2. They don't care what you look like

3. Dogs think you are a culinary genius

4. Dogs understand what "no" means

5. Dogs don't correct your stories

6. The worst social disease you can get from dogs is fleas

7. Dogs do not play games with you—except fetch. And dogs never laugh at how you throw

8. Dogs feel guilt when they've done something wrong

9. Dogs miss you when you're gone

10. Middle-aged dogs don't feel the need to abandon you for a younger owner

If these volunteers are sick of taking in people's dogs, then maybe they should give them to people who will actually enjoy them. Lots of cultures eat dog meat. If no one wants the dog, then I say let's eat it!

*shakes head and waits for the flames*

Edit: I'm sure that was a joke jcl76, but rather crude and not very empathetic towards those that really care about dogs :(

*Fires up the grill

(Only kidding)

I  was not fond of animals in my youth, but now that I have a full family of humans for my pets (a dog and two cats) to choose from, I am their favorite of the clan.

(tears in my eyes)  Since I AM a dog lover, and just rescued a puppy in my neighborhood,  it made me tear up.  I am continually amazed by the stupidity, calousness, meaness,  selfishness of many pet owners.  I have resuced many unwanted dogs and they turned out to be some of the best dogs I had.  The only pure-bred dog I ever owned was my Papillon, who was my best little friend and companion for 14 years.  He was a little angel and I still miss him.

naturistdiva {{hugs}} So sorry for your loss :(

It's amazing how loyal and loving dogs can be, even to the worst owners! I can't watch the shows on Animal Planet (Animal Precinct and similar programs)because it hurts to see people treating their animals so horribly. I would sob my eyes out when I would watch them. How can you abuse something that loves you and depends on you so much? *sigh*
