Will this make it easier to lose?
With Christmas in mind...I think I've gained a couple of kilos...starting boxing day I'm going on a massive diet!
And I was just wondering, because I've gained the weight over a week, will it be easier to lose it? If you gain weight slowly, does it make it harder to lose? Or is it irrelevant?
What do you mean by "massive diet"?
Make a plan that meets your caloric needs. A plan is necessary to succeed.
Start with your fruits and veggies.
Figure out how many carbs and proteins you will need.
Make room for some healthy fats.
Figure in your beverages, water, coffee, tea.
Come up with a tally and then tweak it to fit your lifestyle.
Do plan on losing for the long run. Fad diets may let you lose weight faster, but you will probably gain it all back. You want to lose this weight forever, so be kind to your body. Make it a lifestyle change, not a diet.
Have a happy holiday.
Massive diet may have been a bit of an exaggeration!
I just meant I'm going to continue on with my healthy eating/heavy exercising lifestyle, but really strictly.
I've followed all your advice, thanks!
Any responses to the initial question, anyone?
If it only took you a week to gain it, you should return to normal rather quickly after resuming your normal routine.
There's no easy answer. If it's partly from excess fluid retention caused by too much salty food, then it will go fast. If it's solid fat that you gained then it's going to take longer. Keep in mind that it takes 3,500 excess calories (over and above what you burned) to put on just one pound. It's pretty hard to eat that much. If you did, then returning to a sensible meal plan will get rid of it in time and you may not have to do anything different than you were before.
I'm disturbed by the term "massive diet" What you need is gradual, long term changes to the way you eat, cook, exercise and live. These changes should be for life, not just for now. They should be changes towards improved over all health, not just weight loss.
Last month I went to Mexico for a week and unintentionally gained about 7 pounds. I ate healthy but all the selection at the buffet tables got the best of me portion wise. Considering I could've had desert at any meal time (which I only had four the whole time I was there) and I hardly drank much, I probably did pretty good. However when I got home and returned to my regular eating habits and portions it ended up taking two weeks to lose all the weight I gained. I didn't have to do anything too severe. Just make smart food choices and you know the rest ;)
Have a Merry Christmas
Water retention and salt can cause you to weigh a little heavier. Just give yourself a few days. I really hope you stay safe and healthy if you do want to 'diet'. I overate during Christmas Eve and Christmas. I eventually became bloated with some excess weight. Today is Boxing Day and the weight (plus my bloated tummy) is going down because I drank a lot of water and managed to move my bowels.
