How to make a good Designer Whey shake?

Quote  |  Reply
Ok, so I bought the Vanilla Designer Whey protein powder last week and so far I just cannot stomach the stuff. I've tried it with regular milk, with vanilla soy milk and this morning with my cereal and I couldn't even finish my cereal! :P I'm a bit apprehensive about blending fruits and vanilla together but will try it, if need be. I usually LOVE vanilla flavoured anything...

Anyone have any good ideas?

The Vanilla Praline Designer Whey is kind of rough.  ;)  If you must do vanilla, try the French Vanilla flavor, but overall the chocolate is WAY better.  Adding a tablespoon of peanut butter to ANY smoothie helps the flavor so give that a shot.  And the vanilla is best with fruit I think.  Try strawberries, a banana, peanut butter, vanilla soymilk, the protein powder, and ice.  Good luck!
Thanks, ooooner, I'll definitely try it! :)
Hey Ms Jayd- definitely do fruit. A frozen banana with some frozen unsweetened strawberries and a cup of skim milk makes a delicious protein smoothie. High in calories perhaps, so maybe do half a frozen banana and 1/2 cup berries, but it will definitely make the powder taste better. And if you get the chocolate kind, make a reeses pb cup with choc protein powder, 1 tbsp natural pb, 1/2 frozen banana, and a cup skim milk, SOOOO good!
mmmmm REESE'S PB CUPS! Yummmmmmmmmmy!
Charlie have you emailed me those pictures yet? ;)
I also do the frozen banana and strawberries.  My recipe mix is:
5-7 frozen strawberries
1/3 frozen banana
1 cup horizon organic fat free milk
scoop 100% performance vanilla whey protein powder

blend.
1 cup of orange juice

1 cup of crushed ice

1 scoop of protein powder

Tastes like a creamsicle.

My teenagers insist on having a "smoothie" every morning.  I mix the protein with plain yogurt, add 1/2 a banana, a couple of strawberries, and some peanut butter, a little bit of soy milk, and some crushed ice.  They really like the chocolate much better.  If they don't their smoothies they get really upset.  We don't even start their school work until after they have had lunch.  I have noticed a big improvement in their schoolwork since we switched their schedule around and added the protein smoothie every morning.  My son, who has some learning problems, seems to learn better if he is crunching an apple while he is working!

EAS and ON (Optimum Nutrition) brand Whey powder shake mixes taste fantastic in Vanilla and Chocolate.   They only get a B- grade on this site, and I don't understand why; high protein, almost no sugar...

the Slim Fast powder mixes taste fantastic too, but they have a bunch of sugar and a LOT less protein.   This site gives them an A.  How is it that higher sugar lower protein gets a better grade?  I am assuming it is because they have more complete nutrition. I would HATE to think that Slim Fast paid them for the better grade.

I also note that Wal-Mart "President's Choice" OJ gets a better grade than Simply Orange, even though it is higher in sugar and lower in Vitamin C.  Once again, I would hate to think that Wal-Mart paid for the grade...

I haven't tried the vanilla, I'm more of a chocolate girl.

Have you tried adding cocoa powder to the shake? I add cocoa powder even to my chocolate whey, because I'm chocolatey like that.

I also do the peanutbutter cup smoothie, but I don't add milk (why do you add milk?) I just add more chocolate! Yum!

Also delicious is blending with frozen cherries or raspberries and, of course, additional cocoa powder.
