How can I make my husband see why I want to be thin?
Asked by anonymous on Apr 16, 2009 in Emotional & Behavioral Issues

My husband doesn't understand why I want to lose weight.  He says he loves me no matter what size I am.  How can I get him to understand why I want to lose weight and be thin?

Answer

First, you are asking only for a reasonable weight, not to be “thin”.  Based upon your Body Mass Index (BMI) of 49.8, you are currently classed as severely overweight.  Extreme obesity is not just a matter of appearance.  Does your husband realize that you are twice as likely to die prematurely as someone who is within the healthy weight range?  And day-to-day living is no picnic either when you’re suffering from any of the serious medical conditions related to obesity.  If your husband loves you regardless of size, then he’ll love you when you are “thin”.   Your job is to convince him that you will love him regardless of your size.
