How can I make myself not eat during studying?
I'm gettin ready for finals but all i can focus on is weight and calorie count and eating. what do i do?
You have to prioritise.... It's nice to have some kind of diversion when there's something grim that you have to do! But it can be counter-productive. Being slim is no compensation for flunking finals...
Don't 'not eat' when you study... Brains & bodies work better when they're fed properly and well-nourished. Home-made chunky soups were my solution for finals. Lots of root veggies and beans, all boiled up together with stock. Whenever the braincells ran out of steam I'd warm up a nice big bowl of nourishing soup and enjoy it all the more because it wasn't a bag of crisps! I'm sure you'll find your own way through...
I find that chewing gum helps, if you just want to have something in your mouth while you study. I often found that snacking on fruit and veg (rather than sweets or potato chips) was helpful too.
Maybe study somewhere you can't have food, like a library? Then when you're done, go and get food with a clear conscience. Make sure you take time out to eat a healthful diet, but don't overthink it, or keep going over it in your head if you think you've messed up.
I'm coming into finals week, too. I always make sure to eat really nutrient-rich foods when I have a lot to do. Somehow I focus better when I'm getting plenty of fruits and veggies, healthy fats, and protein. When I just want to mindlessly munch on something while I'm studying or reading, I open up a bag of baby spinach. I can sit there and eat it like potato chips, and even if I finish a whole bag, it adds up to less than 50 calories.
For me, chewing gum works sometimes, but other times it just doesn't cut it. Then I turn to bags of frozen carrots or frozen green beans. I eat them still frozen.
A little weird, but like the poster above said, even if you eat the whole bag, they're just veggies!
I usually make myself hot tea while I study. It fills you up with no calories and it's good for you!
I have the exact same problem. Here are some of my solutions:
Gum
Diet soda
hot tea with stevia
frozen grapes
baby carrots and salsa
I hope this helps, and good luck with your exams!
I practically lived on popcorn, diet soda, and baby carrots while I was studying. Another tip: when you start getting tired and want to munch, do as many jumping jacks as you can, then drink some water. That would often curb my "snack mode", and it gets the blood flowing to your brain.
Good luck!
I'm having the same problem. Unfortunately I just put dieting on hold until finals are over. I figure two weeks isn't going to kill me.
If you must snack while studying, opt for low calorie snack foods. (baby carrots are my personal fave)
Other than that, make sure you are getting enough healthy meals in between studying to keep your brain (and body) going.
I just drink a lot and give myself times that i can eat. Kind of gives me something to look forward to. Or sometimes i will tell myself...once i finish this whole paper then i can have something to eat. It requires self control tho. But coffee, fat free hot chocolate, crystal light, or just plain old water. Gum also helps a lot
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
