how do you make your oatmeal?
im looking for ideas to make mine more tasty i tend to just eat it plain and i dont like peanut butter any ideas ?
Ick, plain?! I usually put 1 tbsp of honey, 1/4 cup of raisins and a couple shakes of ground cinnamon.
Once I tried 1/4 cup of pumpkin puree mixed into 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt along with 1 tbsp of honey to sweeten it up and a couple shakes of pumpkin pie spice. I enjoyed it, but BF didn't so not sure if you would as well.
I read a few posts/threads on here about making a savory oatmeal but lately I realize I prefer to be conservative when it comes to oatmeal.
I am a creature of habit and always have a tablespoon of golden syrup in mine. It makes it into something I actually enjoy eating =)
I use about a tablespoon of agave nectar plus about 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. Occasionally I will add two big spoonfuls of pumpkin puree to that mixture and sprinkle some nutmeg and ginger on as well.
I'm not sure if you saw these threads yet, but they have some really great ideas...Enjoy!

I love oatmeal, I tend to prefer mine plain as well. I like to make mine with milk and add in some cinnamon and raisins.
Sometimes another nice combination is adding in agave/honey with chopped almonds.
If you like apples its quite nice as well to chop up an apple into little pieces and cook it in the oatmeal then add some spices to it with some raisins.
Those arent overly creative suggestions but I just prefer plainer mix ins and they taste pretty good
Mashed banana cooked in is really good :)
I like to cook it in water, then top with yogurt. Cools it down perfectly, adds a decent amount of protein (I use Greek, so 15g) and makes it so much fun to eat.
I like to mix strawberries and bluberries in mine. I love it!!
I think oatmeal is the perfect morning fuel but it's SO boring! I've used raisins, craisins, blueberries, cinnamon, vanilla extract, protein powder and recently tried 1/2 packet of k2o protein water powder. (NOT all at the same time!) I love the fruit mixed in. The protein powder tasted ok and had 25 grams of protein but the overriding flavor was the artificial sweetener. I really like the 1/2 packet of strawberry/kiwi k2o protein water...makes your oatmeal bright pink but gives it a punch of flavor.
thanks guys some grt ideas h x
I always make mine with vanilla soy milk and slice up some bananas. One morning I wasn't paying attention and made it with water instead - not sure how that happened - and it didn't taste good at all. So the soy milk makes a big difference! It makes it sweeter, but a good subtle sweet, not overbearing.
i usually top my oatmeal with some kind of fruit/nut combo. banana and walnuts are delicious! sometimes i'll stir in some unsweetened apple sauce along with some cinnamon, that's also quite good.
i've tried canned pumpkin, as well, and LOVE that!
and if you don't like peanut butter, what about trying out some other nut butters? almond butter is my fave, but cashew is also quite tasty, as is tahini.
yum i LOVE oatmeal!
I hate plain oatmeal. I know it's healthy but if the look of it doesn't make me puke, the texture will. I'm actually eating it RIGHT NOW. I like to take one serving of oatmeal and bury it in blueberries (about 20+ blueberries). It makes it so sweet and the blueberries are really healthy too.
I make my oatmeal with 2/3 cup of water and a dash of skim milk. (1/4 cup of rolled oats). After that's done, I stir in any of the following:
- Splenda and Cinnmamon
- Banana Pieces
- 1 tsp golden honey (60 cal)
I haven't tried putting any other fruits or berries in it, mainly because I hate squishy berries (frozen). I am also not a huge syrup fan. I want to try maybe stirring some semi-sweet (just a few!!) chocolate chips in as a treat occasionally.
1/3 cup dried old fashioned oats
1/4 cup dried cherries
1 cup water
Put it in the rice cooker and wait to hear it click off
, stir in a small handful of walnuts and a sprinkle of brown sugar. I like soy milk on mine.
I make mine savory, I add turmeric, red pepper, cinnamon, ginger and chopped dried apricots.
My absolute favorite is blueberries and almonds. But strawberries, craisens, and pecans are very close.
I use a tbls of Smuckers Sugar Free Blackberry Jam! good taste, and gives it a cool color!
chocolatecoveredkatie.com tons of ideas! I love the microwaved banana!
sweetener & cinnamon!
YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM
