How do i make my quick oats taste better?
I usually eat it with milk and 2 tsp of sugar. I love oats cos for 200 calories it keeps me full for almost 2 hours so i can cook dinner in peace.
But i am worried i will get bored of it soon. Is there a trick to change up my oats?? How do u guys have your oats?
I like adding fruit or cocoa powder. Try going to your grocery store and looking at the oatmeal display - any flavor they have is probably a good combination! I also like to go savory sometimes (some sliced green onions and some Spike's seasoning - or Mrs Dash).
meagollum- There are probably a million different combinations of things you could add to oatmeal. Just think about what you like and try it. Use your imagination. Any fruit (fresh/frozen/dried, nut/nut butters, seeds, spices, flavor extracts, natural sweeteners, canned pumpkin, maple syrup, Greek yogurt, savory, etc, etc, etc...
I think there are also a few threads about oatmeal as well. Also, just google "oatmeal recipes" and you will find thousands.
Also, why not try other hot cereals such as oat bran, which is also quick cooking, or grits...
try peanut butter w/slices of bananas, or mashed bananas. i also love brown sugar and cinnamon. or dried cranberries. or maple syrup. or pureed pumpkin. or chocolate chips. i also like adding vanilla or almond extract when i make it with milk. it kind of tastes like vanilla ice cream!
I love quick oats with peanut butter and a chopped apple. My absolute favorite is 1/2 cup quick oats with a mashed banana (I put a whole banana in a sandwich bag and smash until it's smooth, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 2 tsp sugar. It tastes a lot like banana bread.
A tablespoon of blackberry jam.
I keep it pretty boring but I love it. I cook with water and mix in some brown sugar.
Cinnamon for sure!!
I also read somewhere that cinnamon has something in it that suppresses your appetite.Anyway its lovely with raisins in and much better than those pre packaged ones.
My favorite brunch which keeps me going for FIVE hours is 2 tablespoons of oats mixed with 1/2 cup rolled oats and 1 packet of sweet and low. Pour on boiling water and stir till disolved. It's 350 calories, but really keeps you from feeling hungry for a long time and tastes like a yummy peanut butter cookie.
First thing I'd do is make the switch to regular oats from quick oats. Regular oats are much lower on the glycemic index than quick oats and digest slower, leaving you fuller, longer, for the same calories. They only take 5 minutes to cook, not much time really. Other than that, go nuts...lol. There have been many oatmeal threads on CC for you to look up and you'll find hundreds of ideas...

couldn't of said it better myself... ditch those refined oats and switch to whole oats. Add flax seed, egg whites, cinnimon and stevia.. they'll keep you going for much longer then 2 measly hours. The protein from the egg whites and the extra dose of fiber and healthy fats from the flax seeds will slow digestion, and the cinnimon will keep blood sugar levels steady, while the stevia adds a deliscious sweetness!
bon apetite

How much egg whites do you add to your oats and how do you cook them? That sounds really delicious :)
After adding a dash of salt, 3/4 cup of milk & water (half milk, half water) to a bit more than 1/2 cup of regular oatmeal, I pop it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. Then I add 2 and a half tsps of Country Crock light spread, little less than 1 tbsp of honey, 2 tsps of cinnamon, and a splash of vanilla flavoring.
YUM! It's comforting, buttery, and sweet :)
I also love Malt 'O' Meal and Cream of Wheat. I'm trying to branch out and experiment with oat bran.
I love stirring yogurt into my oatmeal after it's done cooking. About 1 cup of flavored yogurt to 1 serving of oatmeal works well. :-) Greek yogurt has a lot more protein than regular yogurt, as well, which would likely help to further tame your hunger.
By the way, I agree with Johnny and Carmen...old-fashioned oats are a better choice. Steel-cut oats are the very best form of oatmeal, however. I make huge batches of it in my crockpot (overnight cooking works great!) and store leftovers in my fridge to heat up for breakfasts. It's just as quick and even more wholesome and filling than quick oats!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
