Does it make sense me lifting weights?
Hi, i need to lose weight.
Im 50 lbs overweight, and I walk , do aerobics and lift weights.
Does it make sense for me to life weights now? Should I loose the weight FIRST and THEN start weight lifting?

Weight lifting is always good for ya. but if it comes down to you having to go "i only have time for cardio or weights" of course pick cardio because you are trying too loose weight but weightlifting in an essence helps the whole process. by the time you get down to your goal you will look much better with that muscle underneath. muscles also burn cals to maintain themselves but you probally wont gain much muscle because you do have a deficit in cals. but you will maintain this muscle by weight lifting with them. so id say yes it is neccary and very benificial to the cause. :)

Lifting weights will help you to maintain your muscle mass during weight loss. If you don't, it is almost gauranteed that you will lose muscle mass along with fat.

YES you need to lift weights. They are more important than cardio (sorry ladies). You burn more calories over a 24 hour period than you do with cardio if burning calories is your only concern (and it shouldn't be!)

Yup, you should lift, and you should do aerobics, but lifting is more important. Since you're doing both, keep doing them, and lift hard, same as if you were trying to gain muscle (which probably won't happen to any significant degree while you're in a significant calorie deficit, but it still takes that kind of effort to get the wonderful post-exercise metabolism boost weight training provides).
