how do you make sure you do not weigh all the time?

Quote  |  Reply
i have become obsessed with the scales so i was wondering how do you put yourselves off doing so?

what i do in the morning - my scales are in my kitchen - firm floor - bathroom has carpet - i make sure i am fully dressed before i go downstairs - if i go down in dressing gown and little else (exscuse me) then i would be tempted to get on.

any other rational ideas please?

I had a client who put hers in the trunk of her daughters car.  Her daughter would come over on a certain day of the month and bring in the scale so her mom could weigh in.

Extreme but it worked wonderfully for her.
I was sooooo obsessed that I was weighing in like morning noon and night...LMao

So I put that scale in the box it came in and stashed it away in the back of my linen closet.

Now it will only come out on Saturday morning.
put it out of sight.

I used to have it in the corner of the bathroom and I would step on it before I went to the bathroom, and then after I had gone to the bathroom, just to see. it got really annoying so i put it in the closet.

now i weigh myself just in the mroning.
There have been studies that those who weight themselves every day are less prone to obesity than those who weight once a month. Weigh once a day but put the scales somewhere in your house so you must make the special effort to get there (however I don't know that weighing yourself while fully dressed is the best idea).
I weigh myself every morning and then put it where I can not see it when I am in the bathroom, I look forward to mornings to see the weight but tell myself only one day a week is what matters and I only write it down on Sundays any other weight between then is just for my own incouragment
I prefer to weigh myself everyday (in the morning) then I know where I am at and I would rather see a gain of 1 pound at a time rather than 4 and 5. I stopped weighing myslef everyday for about 2 months and I gained 15 pounds, Im sure I wouldnt have let msyelf get that far if I had known how much I was gaining. Now I  am beating myself up for it because its not coming back off. But now that I am bak to weighing myself everyday I have quit gaining, but not losing either.
Is it so wrong to weigh yourself constantly? I weigh myself around 4 times a day, first thing in the morning and then usually whenever I'm bored. It's good to see the fluctuations and prevents me from bingeing and gaining weight. I have this fear that if I stop weighing myself I'll "let myself go" and then one day wake up seriously overweight.
i weigh myself every morning then go to work.
I usually weigh myself once a week. I try not to weigh in more often than that because I know I'll get frustrated if I see my weight fluctuate too much. I know I'd have to completely go NUTS if I wanted to gain more than two pounds in a week, and since I pay so close attention to what I eat I feel comfortable waiting to weigh.

Like a few others, I suggest putting th scale somewhere else. Store it somewhere like a closet or under a bed so you have to actually get it out to weigh. :)
I'm the same, I get demoralised if the scale goes up when I think it should be going down. I like to weigh everyday, but when I started really concentrating on losing weight I was jumping on every 4 or 5 hours. I finally emailed my daughter and asked her to hide the scale while I was at work. She did, and now I'm only weighing in on Monday morning. I lost only a half pound last week. I would have seen quite a bit of fluctuation during the week so I'm glad I spared myself that grief.
I put mine up in the closet! True story.

I actually avoided my scale for 20 days straight, and hopped back on it this past Sunday. I was really pleased with my weight loss. I lost 7 pounds! Woo me :) However, it was in the bathroom floor so I weighed again today! I really need to toss that back up in the closet before I lose my marbles.

brb! I'm going to do that now :)
I embrace my scale, I dont put it off. The scale and tape measure do not lie. Every morning I jump on the scale nekid...after i hit the bathroom of course. I want to make sure i am at my lowest possible weight. Then I break out the tape measure and make sure my waist is still in line...so far so good!
Get rid of your scale. Then go to the department store and use the ones there. :)

Don't worry about weighing yourself while dressed, just make sure that the approximate amount of clothing is the same each time.
My boyfriend told me if I didn't stop weighing myself excessively he'd take the scale away so I try and only do it a couple days a week.  If you have trouble with it when your weight fluctuates a lot, enlist someone's help like others have done.  My weight can fluctuate a lot due to water retention etc, so the once or twice a week is better for me so I can see the total effect.  Now I'm not as bad with the scale but I like to take my measurements a lot.  I find measurements are a much more effective way to track progress, because my weight hasn't seemed to change much but I am losing inches so the measuring tape is way less depressing than the scale!
Yalcekim, I do exactly the same thing ... it works for me too!
Just throw it away and use the scale at the gym or the department store, like someone else said.
I use mine every morning, so I can see if I did okay or not the day before. I need the daily reassurance I'm on the right path, and the daily boost if I did really well.
I tend to check every morning, and sometimes before bed. Usually no more than that, and I sometimes skip the bedtime check, since it's really just for my own information on how much my weight changes through the day. (It's usually 1/2-1 pound.)
I've convinced myself that the scales in my home are unreliable, and so I only use the proper doctor's office one at the gym. :]

Also, I go to the gym with my sister every morning, and she already thinks I'm a bit nuts with my new health kick, so I don't tend to weigh myself in front of her and that limits me to a few weigh-ins a week.
Well, I actually felt that the advice about once-a-week weigh-ins would be counter-productive to me, personally.  Instead I go against most advice and weigh myself every day, often several times a day.  I do have one, and only one, 'official' weigh-in per day.  This is first thing in the morning, and the second thing I do, after weighing myself, is enter that weight on my chart.  Any other readings through the day serve to remind myself that, whatever the fluctuation, I'm lighter than I was, or that I might be even lighter tomorrow, which I find helps me resist some of the temptations that most days seem to bring. :)

I felt that if I took the advice out there and weighed myself just once a week, I'd probably cheat more on my calorie allowance and trust that it would someow all come clean at the end of the week...  The daily weigh-ins can be frustrating with the fluctuations, but they really do help to keep me focussed and motivated.
