I Can Make You Thin

Quote  |  Reply

Well, not me, but that guy on TV says he can. Anyone see the commercials for that? The first episode is this Sunday night (3/16), I believe on TLC. Looks a little fishy from the commercial (tapping your face and what not), but it won't cost me anything, so I'm gonna watch it! Anyone know anything about this guy? Tony something?

I've seen the commercials - my bet is hypnotism.
Can they really hypnotize people over tv? Is that safe?!

Of course he can make people thin, he's on TV and he says so, and everything on TV is true.

I predict a massive reduction in obesity in households with cable TV in the next few months.

lol, floggingsully!

let us know how it goes, ketchup! someone has to keep track of all the latest offers.

So I just looked this up...I have seen the commercials but didn't really think anything of it.  It is hypnosis.  I don't really believe in it but he has some testimonials on his website that are intersting.  But you never know...different things work for different people.

He is well known here in the UK.  He did some weight loss programmes and some of what he said made sense.  He advocates that people eat slowly and consiously, and that you should eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full, and not deny yourself anything.  I think that this advise has a place in developing healthy eating habits.

As for the hypnosis stuff - I'm not convinced, but I did gather some good tips and food for thought to take along my weight loss journey from his programme.

 ROTFL too funny

I know several people who have quit smoking after seeing a hypnotist. i suppose if it works for that it could work for over eating too!

The tapping thing he is doing is called EFT... my mom is a psychologist and she's actually been using this on clients for about 2 years. Not for weight loss, but about other issues such as rejection, abandonment, abuse, anything really! The tapping part of it ISN'T hypnosis. It's about aligning the body and mind. It sounds weird i know, but i've done it!

I've used it on myself for issues of rejection from my dad. I actually think it works. My mom has had lots of success with it for clients. I'm not sure about weight loss, never tried it!! Maybe i should?? I told her about it and she's gonna watch it sunday night and see if this guy's for real.

Hypnotism does work, so it could be interesting. However hypnotism doesn't work on everyone!
Hypnotism will only work if the person is suggestible in the first place.  Not everyone is unfortunately.  I fall into that category.  Boo!

So, did anyone watch it?

EFT is akin to acupuncture but without the needles. EFT (Emotional Freedom techniques) uses the fingers to tap on a series of 12 specific points on the body that correspond to meridians used in Chinese medicine (Wikipedia). You can download the manual for free and read for yourself. I am very much a skeptic but see no harm in "tapping" the pressure points. Afterall, we don't know everything and you never know what works till you try it!

I watch a couple of his shows but was unimpressed with all hype. He does have some good suggestions though. The visualizations of your favorite food being covered with worms etc. was gross but it works for some. I mean afterall, it you envision a dog turd in your plate of pasta, would you eat it? LOL

I can't lie, I followed along during the session on training your brain to associate a craving with something nasty.  I have not touched a M&M since!!!  In fact, they actually turn my stomach just thinking about them.  He offered some really good tips too.

oh wow associating your craving with something gross is actually a really great idea!

It's not just the association, it's was actually an exercise where you imagine chewing something you crave with something that completely turns your stomach....and you are the whole time acting this out in your mouth and feeling the texture and tasting the flavor and all you can do is taste that really gross thing you are thinking about and then after a while that's all it is....GROSSNESS IN YOUR MOUTH!!!  I actually am nauseous right now thinking about those M&M's!  BLUGH

I'm not sure which one you are talking about, but I have seen some guy on tv thats uses associations to make people feel disgusted by foods they onced loved. When the person craves chocolate they are supposed to think of something gross instead and eventually the person will no longer crave the chocolate. A good concept, but do you really want to feel sickened every time you think about a certain food? I know I don't

I believe in what he says, my skinny niece does everything he says skinny people do they eat what they want but not to the excess like obese and over weight people do.  She is constantly doing something she doesn't sit all day at her house.  She made chocolate chip cookies the other day and she didn't have much dough left but she made 4 cookies, she ate two and gave me two.  She eats what she wants and she enjoys it when she eats it.  She is super skinny too.  I have tried the techiniques and they do work!! I "sigh" when im full that's what one person on their website knew they were full.  His 4 golden rules are "eat when your hungry", eat each bite consciously and enjoy every bite (chew your bites at least 20 times each) and eat what you want not what you think you should, and stop when you "think" your full.  The first day i did the rules the next day i had lost 2 pounds.  I have chocolate in my house right now and dont want it when i do his craving buster.  They do work.  His website is mckenna.com      Try it what have you got to lose??

Clarice

I have been using Paul Mckenna's hypnosis cd/book since feb and lost 14lbs.

It has stopped my bingeing and everything.

Its a bit cheesy but it works. I got the book with free cd on amazon for under £5.
