What makes beans healthy??

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone,

I have a question about beans. Beans have somehow made it into the super healthy category, and while I see that beans have some protein and plenty of fiber, I don't understand what is so special about them.

Do they have something else special in them that I couldn't find in other lower calorie vegetables/foods (like broccoli) that makes them particularly healthy?

Otherwise, i'll just have the broccoli! Beans are usually around 200 calories at least for a cup of them, depending on what type. Thus, most of the time I avoid beans, because for 200 calories, I could be having so much more than a mere cup of beans. I could fill up on a large bowl of oatmeal, yogurt, make a sandwich, or even have a candy bar if I wanted.

There full of nutrients, fiber, protein, etc. There good for you.

a cup is a pretty big serving. sure, you could eat a cup of broccoli and save calories, but it won't fill you up as much because it doesn't have the protein.
