It just makes sense...
So, ive been maintaining for the past month or so. Doin the gym five times a week and eating sufficiently (pretty much the same thing eeryday as my schedule is really dependant on work). Anyway, i weigh in once a week and this week im up five pounds. I didnt change a thing though?! Thats what doesnt make sense to me.
Then you automatically want to change something and thats where ive been for the last few days. Am i eating too much of this type of food?, should i do more cardio, should i lift heavier, add fats and cut carbs, etc. The mind is going crazy!!!!
I guess my question is, how do you get past it? Should i just grit my teeth and bear it and see what happens in another week or two, or take the offensive? Automatically i hear myself tell me to take the offensive but i thought i would calm it down and get a third party perspective.
(also, this might be tmi, but there hasnt been a 'two-sie' in about three/four days. Would that be a factor i should add in?)
Body-weight in a healthy person constantly fluctuates. Can easily be 2 or 3lbs either way and it largely depends on how well-hydrated you are, how efficient your digestion is, things like that. So if you're constipated that could mean you're dehydrated and both of those factors will result in temporary fluid retention and therefore a bigger number on the scale.
If you change anything try to make sure your diet includes plenty of fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, pulses (legumes) and that you're getting a good 2 litres of fluids a day... more if you're very active. Also make sure that there's sufficient fat in your diet. Dietary fat (amongst other things) acts as a digestive lubricant. Short-term, consider taking an over-the-counter laxative to get things moving again.
Don't panic...
I agree with gi-jane. You clearly didn't gain 5 lbs of fat in a week. If you haven't had a bowel movement in 3 or 4 days, all the roughage of the food you've eaten since then is still sitting in your digestive tract, and every bit of it has mass. I'd be shocked if you hadn't seen a significant weight gain.
I would imagine cutting carbs would probably exacerbate the problem. Take care of the constipation and you should be fine.
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
