If I wanted to make my own granola bar to take with me on a trip, what ingredient do I use to keep them together? I wanna get them somewhat similar to something like Fiber One bar. I'm trying to keep my fat down, so I don't wanna use anything like peanut butter. (how does that keep something together anyways when it's creamy? lol)

Egg would be a traditional binding agent... and that would give your bars a cake-like texture.  These High Fibre Muesli Bars are excellent and they use a combination of egg and apple sauce to stick everything together.    A butter/sugar solution would be another... that would give you a crispier 'flapjack' type effect.  These Cinammon Berry Granola Bars use butter, sugar and honey.

For a healthier option, opt for more honey and less butter/sugar. I made these last week with spent grains from beer brewing - I added dried cherries, dates, and dark chocolate, they were fantastic.

What ever you decide to use, make sure you chill the bars before trying to cut them- they can be crumbly. After cutting, I wrapped them individually with plastic wrap - that also helped keep them together.

Enjoy!!!
