Making meals for people with different diets in the same household
So I recently had pancreatitis and need gall bladder surgery so I am on a temporarily very restricted diet. Very little fat, tons of fluids so soup features prominently on my menu and not too much sugar.
My household has my husband and I and my six month old son who just started on solids two weeks ago.
For now I have been eating homemade or bought soups, my husband has a bowl too and then I augment his meal with something I made earlier and froze in single servings like a square of lasagne or spanakopita or something really easy like a steak or a sandwich.
It's not much trouble and, besides, it's temporary, but it really got me wondering, how do other people deal with more long term differences in dietary needs or food preferences? Do you each make your meals separately? Does one of you prepare more than one meal to be available at a set time?
On a side note, we've been joking that it would maybe be easier if I shared meals with our 6 month old, we both are eating mushy oats and pureed fruits ;)
i would do what you suggested, fix what you need, serve the same to husband, but add something more substantial just for him.
this sounds easiest because you are basically just going to fix one something extra for dh.
the baby isnt going to be eating the same as yall for a while anyways, not until he gets a few of his teefies, or you recover from your surgery.
Why is your husband not making your meals?!?!?!
I must be the only one whipped around here.
Frothbeast: There must be a lucky woman out there somewhere! LOL
Actually, he usually cooks more but I'm on maternity leave so I've got a bit more time.
