Making music... do you? Have you?

Quote  |  Reply
I do, or have, anyway. Sang for about 20 years, though considered myself a lapsed pianist for about 15 of those 20 years. Singing was something I fell into, and I got to go places and sing with groups I'd never dreamt of performing with. It was fun!

So how about you? Do you play an instrument? Sing? Currently take music lessons? 'Fess up!

i was destined to be a performer!...unfortunately for me i cant sing for a lick and havent been able to stick to learning an instrument..so i have settled for performing in my car everytime i drive somewhere
lol!! Miss Manners says she has every requirement of an opera singer except the voice. :-D

Car performing is good; I do that, too!
Shower singer! Oh and I march the tuba in my university marching band :D
I play guitar, bass and some electronics. It's not a type of music that anyone likes, most often just called noise.  But it's really energetic and there's a manageably small scene of people that make it and like it, so that's fun too.
I took guitar lessons for two or three years when I was younger, but I doubt I could play now.  I'd really love to play the fiddle, though.  And I'm an awesome singer-in my car where no one can hear!  I think my infant is the only one who appreciates my singing. :)
I sing in the shower.. though its hard to hear it over the cat wailing and dog barking.. for some reason any time I sing, they join in. Then again.. the way I sing, my wife says it actually sounds better that way ;-)
sang in a southern rock cover band in high school, and in musicals...still play the guitar...

last and best audience: my baby boy with 'amazing grace' and 'mull of kintyre'  to put him to sleep...
i play guitar a bit, and sang in a band in college.  when i lived in nashville i used to sing in church, took some voice lessons and went on a couple auditions for back up singing, and used to sing with some friends who are "actual" musicians, mostly on bar gigs.  and, yes, i did make a cd a few years ago - for christmas - there are 5 or 6 songs on it, and all the vocals are me.  it's actually not too painful for me to listen to!
I played flute and piccolo for about 10 years then once I got to college I just kind of quit playing. I really miss playing in orchestras and stuff but I don't really have the time to get back into it or the money to invest in a really nice flute and lessons since I haven't played in 4 years. I picked up guitar while in college but I just mess around on it... I can play some songs but again, no time to really dedicate to playing well. As for singing... choir for a long time and I can sing pretty decent..
I played piano when I was a kid...  taking it up again is on my list of 'Someday-I'm-gonnas'

I had plenty of talent for it, but not the body... LOL... my hands are tiny. I can only just reach an octave with fully spread thumb and pinky... *shrug*

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken

Cast Your Fate to the Wind by George Winston is my favorite modern piano piece.  =)
I've been playing the guitar for about 7 years now and I've been taking drum lessons since April this year which is alot of fun and suprisingly more difficult than I first thought. Really wish I'd taken piano lessons when I was younger though :/
what an interesting thread . . .

i played the sax in high school, and from 10th-12th grades i also played in the lenoir-rhyne college stage band.  had a load of fun doing all that.  haven't picked one up in 20 years, though.

i have a banjo and keep threatening to learn to use it

i sing karaoke one or more times a week.

No,  but I sure wish I had the talent to sing! I wanted to play piano, I took lessons for a short time - when my parents separated, mom said she didn't have the money to continue my lessons. That was the end of that dream. I envy anyone who can sing or play! I have zero ability to carry a tune.
Kipp... i'm very jealous that you've been to Russia. I hope that's where the Peace Corps sends me.
I play piano a bit.  And I sing in community theater shows.  I did church choirs and school choirs as a kid, but gave that up after college.
I've been to Russia; it was a quick trip in and out on a concert tour, so hardly counts, alas!
I'm a trainer vocalist....currently restricting my music to church, but I have sung in bar bands for fun and local theatre.  I also am a pianist, and I play keyboards in our church band.  I love music!
I've been a percussionist and drummer for almost 20 years now.

I mainly play on my Roland V-Drums Pro kit these days, as I can pop on the headphones and not bother anyone.  (I can heartily recommend Roland's V-Drums to any fellow drummers out there.)  I also have a pretty tricked out Tama/Zildjian kit that I used to use for live gigs.

I know enough to be dangerous on keyboard type instruments too, between the percussionist and piano lessons I took growing up.

Can't sing a note though.
I have been teaching myself the violin (fiddle).  I have recently moved on from the song camptown races (which I thought was called do-dah, do-dah) to momma's little baby loves shortnin' bread.  Very rewarding.  Especially watching our two cats flee for their lives whenever I pull it out of the case.  I get no respect I tells ya!
