Making tuna
So I have this thing against commercially-made mayo, and don't have eggs on hand to make it myself. However, I DO have a bunch of avocado. So I was wondering if anybody has made tuna with avocado before? How does it taste?
I make tuna with mustard instead of mayo. Also consider lite ranch dressing. Today I had plan tuna in a salad with italian dressing.
never did it that way- avocado- but let us know how it was- I love tuna and love avocado- could be interesting??!!
I too prefer mustard in my tuna- with just a hint of mayo- but I have a picky family and if they see yellow- they freak! They have no idea I have made it that way for over 10 years(since they were all around!)..and that is why as they say- 'my tuna never tastes like yours- can you make it for us!!...I actually learned that in the restaurant business some 20 years ago---so I think it is quite common, more so than people think
Another idea is tuna made with salsa- my uncle does this and swears by it- I have not tried it yet-
Watch out for the insane amount of calories in avocado but I would assume it would be pretty good... I love Tuna and avocado sushi rolls
The flavors go good together
I've never experimented with tuna salad before, hmm, may have to try now!
In Mexico we eat tuna salad with avocado all the time, its kind of its perfect companion. It doesn't have to be guacamole... by the way, if you just mash the avocado a little without adding anything but perhaps a bit of crushed black pepper.
I have a friend who chops tomato, sweet peppers, and celery and cooks them then adds the can of tuna, yeah! she heats it up too!. Then blends the leftover tomato and pepper (cooked in moist heat but not with the tuna) to top it with salsa, it's pretty good!, avocado here would be a side though... and make sure you get some crackers! (preferably rectangular, if you ask me).
ngg21 - I was going to say the same thing! In Mexico, my host family made me tuna salad with avocado & tomato ... it was scrumptious!!!
I also like to chop up bell beppers, celery & any other crunchy veggies I have lying around. I don't even need mayo, but sometimes I add a dab of miracle whip lite for cohesiveness...
Now I'm craving tuna...
Good luck!
Try this!
I don't understand what people's problem with Mayonassie is.
I mix a little can of tuna with a tiny bit of mayo and ALOT of salsa. It's so good it tastes fresher and brighter that way. My aunt made it for me awhile back and at first I was repulsed but decided to try it and haven't made it any other way since.
