Maltese date & almond tart

I have just got back from a week in Malta. On the last evening our hosts served a  date and almond tart. It was a dense, nutty, chewy filling in a pastry case and absolutely delicious. It was bought in from a local hotel so I could not get the recipe. Has anybody with a Maltese heritage come across this dessert and could you let me have the recipe please?

You know how it is - I had one small wedge and I am longing for more!!

Sounds like some variety of imqaret.  There are lots of recipes on the internet, but I can't access them at work.

 Thanks for that. The recipes I have found seem to be for a fried snack but the filling could go into a pastry flan shell I guess. I'll give it a go. Cheers

I don't know if you have tried the recipes you found yet, but I have a girlfriends who's family is from Malta and they are emailing me a recipe for this.  I will get it to you as soon as I have it
