Have you heard about this? I am so disgusted. I read the story and thought I was going to vomit.  And what the h*ll do they mean by "passersby attempted to intervene." What exactly is an attempt to intervene? Either you do or you don't.

I need some cheering up.  If anyone has a story about actually helping someone, I'd love to hear it about now.

that is an awful thing... Frown  unspeakably awful

....

here is an account of a dog and a cat that saved their masters' lives - that's pretty extraordinary

and this is about a woman who found a bag of $65,000 on the side of the road and turned it in right away

there are still good people - way more good people than bad

I thought the same thing! The news here said that people stopped by and "tried to stop him" but "he wouldn't stop"

I want to know how that is possible. Two or more adults couldn't stop him from beating a 2 year old? I am not a big man but you bet your a$$ he would have had trouble beating the little kid with just me all over him.

VERY sad story

Same here...  'wouldn't stop' my ass.

Dude would've had 285lbs of Appalachian fury on him quick.

sharp,

This was definitely a disturbing story to read.  I was going to say that the only justice in this situation is that the man was shot to death himself, but that's the human side of me.

The other side of me says, based on the info in the article, is that there was a hollowness in his eyes, which tells me he wasn't truly "there" when he was doing this.  Something within him triggered this behavior.  Perhaps he abused this child at other times too, but IMHO something in him snapped to make him do this.

I rest in the comfort of knowing that God dealt with him according to His justice, not ours.

Maybe the devil had inhabitted his soul... crazy people.

Yes, I agree with the previous posters though... had I seen a toddler getting whalloped by this guy, I would have thrown myself at him.

I was just about to eat a banana, but now i'm not so hungry...

I am not saying that anyone could have done anything to deserve this, but what could a two-year-old have possibly done? My day is just starting,  but it's officially ruined.

Haha, 'Appalachian fury".  Thanks, nomo and the rest of you.

Still feel like sitting in a dark corner and crying.

seriously, if I had seen a man beating a kid at the side of the road I wouldve shot him. THAT is SURE to stop him.

More evidence of honor in our society.
Our culture tends to treat the symptom rather than the cause. If this kid survived we would be doing all we could to help him, and ditch the father. Think about it, what could posess you to beat a 2 year old to death? This man had to be in a very bad place.

I think it would be harder than you might imagine to jump in and stop him. Do you have kids? What would happen to your kids if he killed you in the fight?

In Poland, where I live, there has recently been virtually a wave of incidents when parents - mainly fathers or mothers' so-called "partners" - beat children to death, from a 2-months old to a 3,5 yr old, and in some cases the kids were even raped... something just freezes inside of me when i hear such news, i'm not an oversensitive person, but i found myself turn off the radio or TV a couple of times. And what distrurbs me almost as much as such crime itself, is that in some cases THE MOTHER KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON, and sometimes even participated... makes me envy you the whole death penalty thing. The media and the government are debating what causes these horrible deeds, but so far no conclusions :/

I don't believe that such people (isn't this an overstatement in their case?) can be re-socialized in any way or in any amount of time. Society is better off without them.

I agree shevandell, I dont think they can be resocialized either. There is absolutley no reason a 2 yr old should be beaten like that!! It makes me want to just hug all my kids and tell them how much I love them. I was very happy to hear the man had been shot to death!!!
I saw this article yesterday, it just made me want to sit down and cry.

I also had some concerns with the fact that people 'tried' to help...there were a few people at the scene, not just one. I would have thought that 3 to 1 could have intervened. Hell...I'm 5 ft tall and still probably would have launched myself at the guy...I'd probably get hurt, but would have a better chance than a toddler. Although one poster had a good point...I don't have kids to worry about should something happen to me.

But still, the fact that no-one physically intervened is almost as disturbing as the story itself...

My mother use to work for CPS here in Arkansas.  You have no idea how many times things like that happen.   We had one situation where a two month old  was dropped off with a neighbor who ran a in home daycare center.  She had agreed to keep the baby over night so mom could get some sleep.    The baby wouldn't stop crying.  Everytime she touched him he cried.    Mom and dad didn't show up the next morning and by noon black and blue marks were showing up all over this two month old baby.   She took the baby to the hospital.  Told them, I don't know where his parents are and explained the way her entire night had went.

They issued an APB out for the parents.  Mom turned herself in.  Apparently the pregnancy and birth had been very tramatic for her and doctors had her strung out on so many drugs she didn't know if she was coming or going.  She couldn't tell you where her huband was.   She admited that the childs care had been left pretty much up to the babies father because she could barely get out of bed most of the time.  The day before they left the baby with the babysitter had been the first time in two months.   So they were going to celebrate that she seemed to be feeling better.

It took two weeks before Dad turned himself in.  Even then my mom had to threaten to have his 85 year old father arrested for Aiding and abetting.  His mom told him, turn yourself in or I tell them where you are.

He had broken all but three bones in that childs body.  His excuse was "What, I just shook him a little cause he wouldn't stop crying. "  The medical examiner said that it looked more like he had held the child by his ankles and slammed him into something solid repeatedly.

When the man showed up for his court date he came into the courtroom crying.  The Judge looked at the bailef and said,  "He's crying. Go shake him.  That is after all what he said he did to this baby."

The judge was ticked.  When the man was found guilty, the judge threw every bit of time he could find for any possible charge at the guy.   The last couple of years, he said were for good measure for making his Momma go through the hell she went through his entire life.   LOL

You got to love small town southern judges.  LOL

i can't speak for them but i may have thought, at first, that it was one of those dumb guys pulling a prank with a doll to freak people out. on jackazz they put a doll in a carseat and leave it on top of a car and take off to get reactions of bystanders. another time they put a doll in a baby seat behind a bike and would crash in front of people. what a stupid show with dumb people! and just so you know, i walked into the room while teenage boys were watching this. they thought it was so funny. not meYell

Kathy I love that story.  Its been one of my favorites all year.   I wonder how many mens teams would have done the same.

I am willing to bet most of them would.

This sad story is local to my area.

Other news accounts included witness statements that the man appeared to be both insane, armed with a knife, and under the influence of PCP (or something similar.)  The witnesses who attempted to help were all fairly elderly, by the way, yet held their ground to some extent and called 911. Most of the witnesses, by the way, were female.

The man, by the way, was the father of the toddler.

Such a sad story.

Yeah I agree.  I think 99% of male athletes would have done the same.  Only d**kheads like Roger Clemens would have left the person lying on the ground writhing in pain.

There's just too much of this going on around the world these days.....we had one here just yesterday where a dad took his two kids to a rural spot.....they are dead now!

It usually seem to be triggered (not all cases obviously) by separation and or visitation rights to their kids. Not that that makes it OK by any means.
