So I bought a mango.  They were on sale and I've always wanted to eat a fresh one.  I brought it with me to work.

I have this wonderful mango, but no idea how to eat it!!

Help?

You can't hava da mango!

Get knife and peel/pull the skin off.  If it's really ripe, expect to get juice all over yourself :)  Dice it into chunks, but 'ware the pit.  It's quite large.  I frequently gnaw on it to get every bit of fruit I can.

lay it on its side, cut it in 3. slice parallel to the pit as close to the pit as possible. you can eat the 2 outer sections with a spoon (or scrape it ourt with your teeth). you can peel the skin from around the pit by hand (it should pull off relatively easily if its ripe) and try to suck the mango meat off of the pit.

make sure you have a way to wash up or just eat it naked in the bathtub. they are messy but if any fruit was sex it would be the mango.

Wink

There's an easier way.  Slice off the flesh on either side of the large pit in the middle - you'll have two big pieces and then some flesh still left around the pit.  Take one of the big pieces and slice a checkerboard into the flesh, down to the skin.  Use a spoon to scoop out the cubes.

The little bits around the pit are a little harder, I try to slice around it as well as I can and then - well, gnaw the rest because it's so yummy!

I had mango this morning, yum.

Sometimes it's better to see how it's done. There is more than one way to do it.  I found these using a google video search

How to Peel a Mango

I love mangoes, luckily they grow around here. I cut off big chunks of flesh then score the skin. Then you can get at the fruit more easily.

I also love mangos. Sadly, most of the time they're underripe and flavorless where I live. There's like a one-month period where you can get delicious, sweet, flavorful mangos, but even then, you really have to go to an Asian/Mexican grocery store to get something than the horrible stringy variety most grocery stores carry.

I went to Puerto Penasco, Mexico for a race once. Afterwards, we sat on the beach and bought mangos. The vendor would slice the bottom flat, skewer it with a stick, peel it, cut it into petals, and sprinkle it with lime juice, chile and salt. So good.
