Mantras

Quote  |  Reply
What are some of the mantras you recite to yourselves when that chocolate is calling to you? When the cravings are being bothersome?

I'll get you started.

"I control the food, the food does not control me."

The craving means that my body is going to have to use fat for energy.  My plan is working! yahoo!
Stay away from the food...Stay away from the food...Stay away from the food...Stay away from the food...Stay away from the food.
"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"

... and if I want something like CHOCOLATE, then I remind myself that I really want to enjoy GOOD CHOCOLATE and that the next time I'm in town I'll go to the chocolate shop for one piece.  That stops me from eating junky candy bars.
"Never give yourself cause to say, 'I will do better tomorrow.'"
I like yours spoiled_candy...I think I'll adopt it if you don't mind  :)
Lol, I put away the chocolate and pretend I'm a little kid playing hide and seek: "If I can't see it, it's not there...  If I can't see it, it's not there...."
chocolate is a vegetable....chocolate is a vegetable....chocolate is a vegetable.........
Gert I love that...

"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"
Haha, I laughed out loud at that, clairlaine! If only it were true....
"26.2 miles, eat my shorts."

and...

"Hello Mr. Hill. Meet my bum. Bum, please kindly show Mr. Hill who's boss around here."

and, finally...

"Mmmmm...oatmeal. Love of my life; fuel of my fire."

"noone ever got fat eating grapes"
"Moooooooo!"

Seems to work for me! I have 2 mirrors in my bathroom so I get a good look in the morning. Then I spend the whole day trying to not add to the moo-i-ness that is my hips. :)
yum. i have some then forget about it.
"The pleasure of eating this will be over in __ minutes (or seconds!) and eating it will only make me want more."
When doing Physical Exercise, flash backs of my first drill instructor come back to mind and having him yell, "pain is only weakness leaving the body," thats what I tell myself on long runs now.
It's kinda mean but.... "Let THEM get fat, not me!"
"a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips"
Heh- for the fitness thing: "Pain is merely a temporary form of discomfort solely existant in my mind. Thus, if I don't think about it anymore, I am no longer in pain."

It also helps if I go over all of my European history notes in my mind; I did that on a night we did 300 kicks in karate, and I didn't even realize how many I did by the end. : P

And something I stole from somebody else: "Eat to live, don't live to eat."
I found this on a different site but it's become my motto, mainly for fitness but parts could be used for nutrition:

The courage to start, Patience to train, Wisdom to rest and Faith to finish.

I also am in a friends wedding in April and I want her to be surprised by how much I lost, so I think of her face when she sees me and also how I will look in the dress :).  Helps keep me away from a "quick" fix and find something else better.

my mottos:

"loose weight, feel great!"

"better to restrain than regret"

here's an inspirational quote:

"working hard is like blowing a balloon, the bigger the balloon the easier it is to blow. Your body could do great things if your mind lets it"- from my high school running coach.
