Do you know of any maple syrup alternatives? I'm not looking for something low calorie necessarily, but something just as tasty with alot more nutrients.
Thanks!
ps- I like maple syrup on waffles and pancakes.

Actually, you really wanna stick with REAL Maple Syrup. It's tasty and it actually has nutrients (vs. the faux stuff that does not.)
Honey's another good sugar-filled natural sweetner, also with some nutrients.

REAL maple syrup is the only sweetner (other than something like stevia) that does NOT get your blood sugar going. You should try to use it in place of sugar/artificial sweetner whenever possilble. It's used in the master cleanse, lemonade diet as a healthy way to add nutrients without making you hungry.
Wow, I didn't know that real maple syrup doesn't get your blood sugar going and actually has nutrients!
That's good to know!!!
I use the real stuff... but I didn't know it was better than the fake stuff. I thought it was just a matter of preference.

I've tried the sugar free syrups and they just aren't very good. Plus they have sugar alcohols in them.

I love applesause on pancakes. Even better is applesause in pancakes. Also, bananas or other fruits. They wouldn't even need syrup.
shill- mmmmm applesause IN pancakes sounds wonderful! What ratio of pancake mix vs. apple sauce do you use? This would also cut the fat content of each packae :)
I saw a recipe for pancake toppings somewhere that was 1TBS Maple Syrup and 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt. I have not tried it yet.
Honestly, I'm not sure!! I am an eyeball cook. I usually don't measure and it depends on how much I make. I substitute about the equivilent of the buttermilk it would replace. I use applesauce in brownies too. It replaces the oil. My Mom taught me all these switcheroos.
applesauce in brownies.... mmmmm, yummy!
Have you tried the sugarfree syrup from Smuckers? it's really good, i think and i really dislike the taste of fake sweetners. it almost has a buttery taste to it, so it enables you to skip butter completely!
ED Smith makes a sugar free table syrup. Original has 10 cals per Tbs, and the butter flavor has 20.
iamset, I'm going to try the maple syrup/yoghurt mix tomorrow... I'll let you know how it goes.
We mixed maple syrup with blueberry yoghurt and blueberries.... it came out really good! Thanks!
Juliedee, Good to know! Thanks. I'll give it a try too. Yum, I get pancakes this weekend! ;)
