Marathon, Luna, Nutrgrain, what's your goto Bar?

Quote  |  Reply

In the convenience store near my dorm, there is a whole side of an aisle devoted to these nutrition / protein bars.  I've tried Marathon and can't complain.  Luna is yummier but more calories.  I'm thinking about trying the tea cakes but I'm not sure what the difference is nutrition-wise.  The rest I have no idea about.

Anyone else like these bars?

Do you eat them for snacks or as meal replacement?

Which bars do you like and why?

Me:  Enjoying Marathon, thinking about Luna.  I use the bars as snacks or just take 1 bite to curb late-night munchies.  Sometimes one becomes breakfast if I'm in a hurry.  Marathon seems to pack the most calcium for its calories,  and that's important to me.

I love the South Beach protein bars - yummy, fair calorie count, a lot of protein and the price can't be beat!  Peanut butter is the best, imo.

I hardley buy these anymore, but I prefer Fiber One bars.  I think it's for the extra fiber.  I've also bought Quaker Omega-3 bars.  They wern't quite as good in my opinion.

Fiber one are my favorite, chocolate and oats.  However most people that eat them call them farty bars.  Alot of fiber.

there are tons of threads about protein bars and which people like better...

Marathon, Luna, Nugo, Kashi GoLean Crunchy are my favorites.

I eat them as snacks and love the vitamins and minerals they contain as well as protein. I like the Marathon ones because, as you said, they pack in a lot of calcium.

My favorite is probably Luna bars.  Nugo are also good, but I can't get those in my area.  My favorite luna flavors are dulce de leche, cookies n' cream and chocolate peppermint stick. The Luna Sunrise flavors are also good.  I also really like most of the kashi bars, but be careful because some of them were recalled recently.  Pure Protein are good but kind of expensive.  Quaker makes some good granola bars too.  I eat them as snacks.  They're convenient and  portable and a lot healthier than may other snacks.

My favorite are the fiber one oats and caramel bar or the snickers marathon b/c they taste like a candy bar but are healthier than a candy bar...i actually think they taste BETTER than most candy bars..go figure though since it's made by snickers. I also like the power bars--they have a taffy like texture and take a while to chew so they last a long time...the peanut butter flavor is really good. I eat them as a snack b/c they still taste good but nutritious as well! =)

I eat these types of bars often, but my two go-to favorites are Z Bar's in Chocolate Brownie and Balnce bar in Chocolate Almond. I'm a tad bit of a chocoholic (who am i kidding? it IS a necessaity of life - oh yes it is), but the Z Bar fills me right up as a nice snack or dessert for 120 cals. It's awesome as dessert if you break it up in a bowl, zap it for under 30 seconds, add a few mini marshmallows and zap again. Warm gooey brownie in a bowl!

And the balance bar, well it's just yummy and perfect all around. 200 cals - i like to have it as a on-the-go snack if i'll be away from heathy snacks for a few hours at class, or eat half before a workout and the other half after.

Either way you go, choose a bar that's low in sugar and under 210 calories would be my advice! But remember, these ones taste yummy. :]

My favorite bars are Larabars.  I love Luna bars but cannot have sugar cane so it rules those out.  I have 1/2 Larabar before working out and it helps give me an energy burst without to much.

I LOVE the South Beach High Protein Cereal Bars. At 140 calories with 10g of protein it can't be beat. I use them as a snack. Generally as a boost after my workout so I am not famished by the time my lunch is ready--so I don't grab something else not so good for me. The Cinnamon Raisin and The Peanut Butter ones rock. The chocolate is really bad in my opinion. :)

Mhm!  The trick is finding a low-cal one...  Since I am just fine on protein I am only looking for as much variety of nutrition and calcium especially as I can get.  The marathon bars are 160 calories and ok tastewise.  I may have to just try all of them haha.

Balance/Zone/Lara bars for me!

Just went and bought a ton of different bars to sample, and GEEZ.  What's with the INTENSE over-compensating sweetness on the luna bars???  I got the sunrise ones since I'll be eating them in the morning, and there's ICING or something similar on them...  I'm really suspicious now.  The other one I'd gotten had nothing of the sort.

It tastes too good to be true...  /suspicious face.

LARA BARS!!!

all natural ( and only 3-5) ingredients.

coconut cream pie and banana bread are the best flavors, in my opinion. :)
