Marathon Question

Quote  |  Reply

I am training for my second marathon.  The last time around, I trained with a strong manly friend who thoughtfully would hold a water bottle for me even on really long runs.  This time I'm training alone - what will I do for water?? :)

I remember seeing other runners with belts that hold small water bottles and some others with camelback backpacks.  I'm thinking that I should buy one of these products but I'm worried that the belts will bounce....but I also imagine that a camelback might have the same problem and be irritating to wear on a long run (especially if I'm wearing a tanktop).

Does anyone use a water belt or a camelback on long runs?  I need help deciding! Thanks!

I would do the fuelbelt(http://www.fuelbelt.com/)...there is a nice padding on the inside whereas a camelback isn't really designed for the constant jarring in a long run... I just ran my 1st marathon last weekend and you will definietly need one if you are training alone!

Congratulations on your first marathon!  I have trained for and run four marathons, and it's a great feeling.  I have found that the easiest way to handle the water issue is to preposition water along my route for the long runs.  I literally hide water bottles (store-bought, sealed so I know they haven't been tampered with) behind bushes, telephone poles, etc. where I think I will need them.  This way, I don't have to carry the extra weight (I can lose 2 liters per hour on a long run, so it would be a lot of water to carry).
