Marilyn Monroe's BMI in Playboy 1953

Quote  |  Reply
Will knowing this number bring motivation?  Today we see these women with hip bones that gutt forward and they are deemed as the sexy goal to look like?  Yuck.  Who in their right mind said that it is attractive?  To have emaciated faces?  Really look at the women with flat stomachs?  Unless they are early teens, their cheeks wrinkle markedly.  Watch them.  It is to the point that when they grin they get these horrible long wrinkles from their eyes down to under their chin.  I am sorry, but I have no desire to be any less busty and voluptous than Marilyn Monroe.  I wish people really looked at what the media is coughing up at us?

Hows this for an idea?

When you are frustrated and not sure what body image to latch onto and aim for that is realistic and healthy?  When your motivation is out of wack because of the Media blitz of images they throw at you?  Me?  I spout back and say heck no.  I do not want to lose my hips and breasts and end up looking like a 13 year old boy.   Real women are curvacious.

::chuckles::  Remember, even Marilyn could have stood to gain a few pounds?

Thank you to Wikipedia and C-C.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marilyn_Monroe

Good for you! Kudos! You are SO RIGHT! Sometimes I get caught up in wanting to be SKINNY-SKINNY, yet I KNOW it's really NOT attractive! I don't know WHY I do that (media probably!).

I thought MM weighed MUCH MORE than that!!!
This is simply the reference I found in Wikipedia.  It is specific to that very first edition of Playboy magazine.  She is partly famous for launching the magazine's success.  I am not a big memorizer of her informations, I am sure others know her much better.  She lived another 9 years and her addictions likely effected her weight up and down both before and after.  Poor thing.   ~ Lost Artist
.

p.s.   I found it wild that the low end of the BMI healthy range is 20 and here she is around 19+.  Shes a good mental image to keep in our minds about what healthy really is.

What do the guys out there think?   Shall we aim for the media images of super rail road thin models?  Or nicely plump and gorgeously roamy like Miss Monroe?

I'm guessing the 118 comes from Playboy. Lets just say not to believe everything they print about the models -)
I think the playboy magazine alone is a good statement. Granted you may not think of it the way i do but i plan to get into playboy in a few years when i'm actually allowed. But the girl's in the magazine are NOT stick thin. They arent heavy but they aren't 80 lbs at 5'7 or whatever (just throwing out an example). They are almost celebrating the fact of women having curves. I think the girls there are inspiring and aren't giving girls the mental image that you have to be underweight to look beautiful.
I thought I had seen somewhere that she wore a size 16 or 14 at one point in her career - wish I knew where I saw that
dbacker, I had read that too - that she wore a size 14 or 16, which is consider 'plus size' now.  Not sure about back then.  I wish I could remember where I had seen it too.  I do remember I had read/seen it more than once.

EDIT: adding links (below)

Might want to check out these links for some info on the truth to her size:

I would rather look like Marilyn Monroe than Kate Moss, ANYDAY!!
I've also heard that she wore a 14/16, but that it is equivalent to today's size 4/6.
I am back and active on CC again and reading thru older posts.  This one still inspires me.  I weighed myself today, didnt lose this week, even though I walked alot.  So I am going to decide that its all sexy arse thigh muscle coming in to keep me nicely rounded like a woman should be ::grins:: Trying to stay positive ~ Lost Artist

under 20 is not and underwt bmi. under 18.5 is.

everyone preaches about size acceptance...as long as it suites thier needs...you are being exactly what you are fighting. a judgement based on size of personal preference.

real women dont define themselves on what they look like.
you should make that your positive goal towards health instead of judging people.
keep it positive for your sake:
