Getting married 2009/2010?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I just got engaged a few weeks ago and will be getting married next June 2010.  I wanted to know if anybody else is getting married this year or next year to see how the wedding planning and weight loss/gain efforts are going.  Hopefully we can motivate each other.

So far I've tried on a couple of dresses that has me very excited and I'm looking for a reception hall which is turning out to be trickier than I thought it would be.

I'm aiming to have a great arms/shoulders/back for the wedding dressSmile.

Yay! I'm so happy that I'm not alone.   Congrats girls!

Sullysbunny: Vegas, nice!  I wanted a simple reception too but it doesn't look that's going to happen lol!

I am thinking of holding my reception at a resort just outside of town.  I've been there before and it's absolutely beautiful.  You can have a tent ceremony and the reception there.  The outside and inside is perfect for pictures in case it rains.  But weddings can be expensive!

Has anybody booked their reception hall yet?

I am going to be a May 2010 bride.  Super excited, but lots of weight to drop by then (at least 40 pounds).

Hi girls! Congrats on all of your engagements! I am not officially engaged yet, but my boyfriend and I did some ring shopping back in February, so the proposal is coming soon....hopefully!! :) We have already decided that we want to get married sometime in 2010, so I am trying to get a jump start on losing some weight now.

I am 28, 5'5" and currently 170. I would like to lose about 30 lbs. 20 would be great, but 30 would be better! :) I had a knee injury about a month ago, so I haven't been able to do much, but it's getting better, so I'm getting back in the gym this week. Normally I workout 4-5 days a week, elliptical for 45 mins, abs, upper body, free weights, etc.

Trying to eat healthier, 5-6 small meals a day, more fruits and veggies, lean meats, etc.

A wedding is a great incentive to get in shape. I want to look and feel beautiful on my wedding day! :)

Good luck girls!

I'm looking at Sept 2010.

I haven't tried any dresses on yet. Too scared to. I've slimmed down quite a bit but I'm afraid it might not be enough. I'm planning on a Vegas Wedding and then coming home for the reception. Not sure if I want it like a real reception or more like a backyard BBQ. LOL.

Congrats all!

I started trying them but I am going to wait until August (hopefully I will have lost some weight by then) to officially decide. I don't want to get the dress and then lose a lot of weight and have to have a lot of alterations done! Thant can get pricey! Good luck everyone!

Has anybody booked their reception hall yet?

We started looking for a hall about a year out and found that most were already booked.

Welcome everybody and congrats to all.

floggingsully:  I do find that places are getting booked up fast!

jmd22: That's so exciting that you've done the ring shopping and then soon...the surprise!

What sort of exercises/programs/dvds is everybody doing?  I just finished the 30 Day Shred which is amazing.  I will be doing ChaLEAN extreme next.

Slimfit: did you do the full 30 days of the 30 Day Shred? I have it and have done it a few times, but since I usually just go to the gym, I wasn't sure if I should substitute the gym a few days a week with the video, or do the video only for 30 days? What kind of results did you see?

We're getting married next month :)

I've planned the wedding in two months; we both got new jobs and decided to just go for it, as we've been together for 5 years. I had my dress made in February (we got engaged in November) since I figured that would take the longest out of all the things I had to do.

My locale suggestion? Try a state park! I rented a lovely cabin on the edge of Lake Michigan for 12 hours, only two months in advance - for $100! Also, getting maried on a Sunday will free up a lot of dates - a Sunday afternoon wedding and early evening reception made getting an available caterer and band a snap!

As for fitness... well, I didn't want to feel stressed out about anything, seeing as we're planing this in about one minute, so i told my dressmaker to leave a little extra room for flutcuations. Other then that, I'm just keeping up my normal workouts mixing pilates, weight lifting and cardio. I very much suggest kickboxing (with a bag, not cardio) as a way to tone up all over, especially your arms and back! It burns a ton of calories, too.

Halls do book up fast.. well at least where im from anyway! I got engaged back in April 2008, when we went to go book our hall, one banquet manager told us he already had dates in 2011 booked! I'm finally under a year.. gosh it it feels like forever! lol!

I'm getting married September 5th of this year.  Congrats!

Even though you are getting married in 2010 I strongly suggest booking you're ceremony site, reception hall, photographer, & DJ right now.

Jmd: The 30 Day Shred would be a good substitute to the gym because it is a full body workout that has a good amount of cardio.  I did finish it and I really liked the dvd.  I downloaded Level 3 to my blackberry so I could take it to the gym with me in case I ever wanted to do it there instead of in my apartment because it has a lot of heavy jumping and I didn't want to disturb the neighbours below me.  Although I know of few people who have lost weight, I didn't lose weight really but I had already been on a few months plateau - that I'm still on! Anyways, I really toned up and got firmer and perkier everywhere.  It works the chest, shoulders and abs really well.

mel: Next month?! how exciting! Congrats on the new jobs.  I was thinking about a park.  You are smart to not make yourself stressed out about the whole thing.  I hope you have a beautiful wedding day.  Let us know how it goes! Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions.  I am anxiously trying to find the perfect spot.  I am one of those people that have to research every avenue... although I know where I really want to have it already.  I should stop torturing myself and just book it already! lol

What are you ladies doing for flowers? Hiring a florist, or DIY?

I'm planning to go the DIY route- getting to the wedding locale a week early with my cousins and roping them into helping me with decorations (I don't have an official wedding party, and my sister and cousins are super awesome at design.) I'm thinking a trip to a big craft store, Target for little vases, and asking for donations from my grandmother's garden club should suffice!

I would love to do it myself.  That's a great idea!  Too bad I don't have a green thumb or else I would grow my own lol.

i hired a florist but to save some money i chose low centerpieces vs. high
