Got Married and Gaining Weight! eek!
Hello! So I just got married and now I feel like i'm gaining the "freshman 15" except its the new wife 15!
I realized now that i'm living with a man I am starting to eat like one!! I googled it and that seems to be why lots of women gain weight once they get married. They just eat as much as their husbands do without realizing it.
My husband is way more in shape than me already and the same height as me, i'm worried if I gain any more weight he is going to wonder why he is slowly getting to be smaller than me! haha we are also going to see his family next month and I don't want them to comment on how i've gained weight especially because we have only been married 2 months!
I'm just looking for support basically...is anyone else experiencing this..or did you experience it and beat it?? I would love some advice!
Hi kjhelberg,
I think that nesting is fattening. (-: It is true about weight gain when things change - not dating, spending more time at home in evenings instead of going out, not planning a wedding etc... It feels good to plan and fix meals in your own place. At CC you will find lots of tips and suggestions from others. Most effective for me is a cut off time at night for eating. Most nights it is 630 pm unless going out(which right now I am avoiding, if possible). Amazed at the drop in pounds in 2 weeks. Even after a wedding 4 a niece & a bd party for 95 y/o Aunt.
glad you are here. Calorie Count in food log is a great way to keep up. i am doing 1500 calories for now to get weight down. plan to maintain on a little more.
love & light

I have been in a new relationship since November, I worked very hard to get my weight down. Since my new relationship I have gained about 25lbs. I think what the other reply said was right, I started eating as much as him, not realizing how much he ate.
This weekend I went to visit family and my mom asked if I was pregnant. I'm not and asked her why did she ask. She pointed at my belly. Very frustrating.
I just started on here a couple weeks ago, I am getting the hang of logging things and figuring out what to eat ahead of time. Versus eating and then log and see way toooooo many calories on my log.
I am going to start the no eating late rule again, it helped me last time.
Thanks for the motivation!
I have just joined. I gained weight too when I was in a relationship. I did the same thing, ate the same amount as the guy. He didn't gain at all; and now he is in Nicaragua eating beans and rice, their main staple, and he says he has even lost his handles around his waist. I didn't go back to the same lifestyle with food that I had before we ate together and so even though I have been walking lots and hiking too all summer, I did not lose weight like planned. I need the calorie counter to learn about what I am doing. I didn't think anything of eating the same as him and I wish I had caught on as fast as you did.
So I thought I would give an update of what has been going on since my last frustrated post...haha I am doing better at not eating the same portion sizes as my husband :) It is really helping me feel better about myself I think. We just went grocery shopping and we bought lots of chicken fruits and veggies...I am going to try to start cooking healthier meals for us too because then I can also "control" the calories...instead of just making whatever sounds yummy but is probably LOADED with calories. So I am excited for all the new healthy foods we bought.
I realized that I also SNACK like crazy...I didn't even realize how much I snacked until I started calorie count...those "little" snacks I didn't think much of...like yogurt here..granola bar there...things that could be good to snack on I was having WAY too much of and really increasing my calories during the day. It is really hard to stop. I realized I snack when I'm bored..so I just avoid the kitchen at all costs put some gum in my mouth carry around a water bottle and try to keep myself busy or I take that craving and turn it into some ab exercises or a round of "perfect pushups"(we just got it as a wedding gift) so instead of eating i'm helping my body be more fit!
They say if you just wait 10 minutes when you have a craving...your craving normally goes away! it is so true it really works...I just try to occupy my mind for 10 minutes and then i'm good to go after that.
We also just got p90x and my husband has been doing some of the workouts with me, it really helps me feel motivated when he supports me and helps me get through the workouts...they are INTENSE!
Now when I make dinner I make just enough for the portions we are going to have (two for my boyfriend). Not enough for seconds, and not enought for tempting leftovers. Unless I am making something like a roast, which is two meals. I freeze half of it till ready to use.
I just started doing this this week. When I dish out my boyfriend and daughter's plates I explain to them that is what a recommended portion looks like. I admit it does look small in comparrison to what we used to, and what most people eat. I'm not making them eat the same as me, but trying to make everyone more conscience of what they are eating.
I heard of a trick for your mind a while back, to serve your dinner on the salad plate. Looks like more on a smaller plate :)
I did the P90X with a girlfriend of mine for 6 weeks. 6 days a week 1-2hours a day. We both gained weight. And it wasn't muscle. We followed it exaclty, didn't cheat. There are a couple different programs to choose. So make sure you read all the information before starting. I really enjoyed doing the workouts, but wasn't happy with the results after 6 weeks of hard work. But then I wasn't eating right. So that may make a difference for you and your husband. GOOD LUCK!
