Getting married? Need to loose weight for the big day?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey CC'ers,

I'm getting married in May and really want to get back to where I was when I first started dating my FI six  years ago. At 5'6" I weighed in at a healthy 130lbs. Starting CC I was weighing in at 160 and am currently at around 147. What are you doing to get in shape for the big day? Some motivation and support needed over here for a stressed out bride...

Cheers!!!

LOSE.  Not "loose".  Smile

I am getting married in January 2010 and I am trying to go from 145 to 125. I am 5'2". To do this I have been working out 5-6 days a week. I alternate between boxing, walking/jogging and lifting weights- actually kettle bells. Additionally, I have been watching my carbs and sugars. When I eat carbs I try to eat sweet potatoes, brown rice and udon noodles as opposed to white rice and pasta. So far so good. I have not noticed much of a change of the scale, but my body is changing, getting stronger and gaining muscle- therefore my clothes are fitting better.

Congrats on your upcoming weddings! I am getting married in July 2010, and would like to lose 20-30 lbs by then. I am currently 5'5" and 170lbs, which is by far the heaviest I have ever been :( I have been trying to stick to a higher protein, low carb diet, avoiding refined sugars, stopped drinking sodas, etc.

For exercise, I take our dog for 1 or 2 walks a day (1-1/2 miles each time) plus taking a few cardio strength classes a week at the gym, but need to start adding in some time on the elliptical as well. It's really frustrating, because I have always eaten pretty healthy, but I am just one of those people who needs to work out a lot to lose weight.

I am concerned about ordering my wedding dress, as I have heard that it usually takes an average of 6 months to get a dress in on order, but I don't really want to order a dress until I have lost at least some of this weight. I am thinking that I will try to find a dress with a corset-type back, so that it is more adjustable?

Good luck to you all! :)

I'm getting married March 20th, 2010! WHEW! I just started running again and I'd like to get back upto my 30MPW. My first day back was yesterday, I only ran 1.5 miles, but everyone has to start somewhere! I'm going to incorporate my 30 day shred dvd and possibly (if Powerhouse runs their $20 a month special again) get a gym membership and start lifting. Also, I do the majority of my fiance' & I's grocery shopping so I've subed out Ho Ho's for Fiber 1 bars... Things like that. I still buy my fiance' his stuff, but only the things I won't want to eat.

What is everyone else doing?

fitmom- thanks for the correction!!! jaja...

amy- WOW January 2010, congrats! I'm sure you will reach your goal! You have a lot of time and it sounds like you are not letting anything slide by you! Working out 5-6 days a week.. wweeehhhwww... I'm tired just thinking about it. I have been watching my carb intake as well but, I'm a sucker for pasta Sealed

jmd- summer weddings are always so nice! What colors are you using? I know how  you are feeling about the dress! I just took the dive and ordered it. I figured I would loose some weight and ordered it one size smaller! It had def. kept me more motivated and in check in regards to my cal. intake. I really like the corset dresses.. maggie sotterro has a some really nice ones, RUBY! That was my second choice but I went for another... :) Keep up the hard work, I think you are getting a lot of cardioand up the strength training classes I would say...

Megan- MARCH 20th!!! You are getting married in my birthday months YAY!!! Running 1.5 miles, you go! That is great, it took me two weeks to get to run a mile without stopping! I love the fiber bar trade up! That is really smart, I do all the shopping too so that make total sense. What is hard for me though is the my FI can eat ANYTHING and won't gain weight so adding the cheese, the sour cream, and as a latina, tortillas are huge in our daily diet and he would not like it if I didn't get that stuff... the temptation!

ME- Well, I started with a personal trainer about a month ago and I am seeing results little by little. My engagement session is Sept 26th so I have been really working hard to look good for those pictures! I only work out 3 times a week for an hour and a half which consists of 1 hour weight/strengthtraining followed by 30 minutes of cardio. My trainer tells me to allow the body to recover because your muscle's get sore and swell up so you have to let them heal in order to really build them up and get toned. I have also began a very strict diet and measure EVERYTHING I eat. I find that its not what I eat but HOW MUCH I eat that makes me retain the weight. I'll have a salad for example and think its healthy but eat a salad big enough for like 3 people. So, since then, I now measure my meals so that I'm not over eating... I am also watching the flour and refined sugars in hopes that this will help! MAY 29th 2010 here I come!!!

I am getting married April 2010. I haven't started dieting yet but my goal is to lose 20-30 lbs. I have gained about 15 since being with my fiance and I could have standed to lose a bit before I started dating him too. I have tried on dresses once but I am not doing it again until I lose some weight!!

But I have to confess I have not yet started dieting or exercising. I have had it in my head that I would start today (9/1) because it's not as hot and I can do more stuff outside now. I also have a gym membership. My circumstances make it really, really difficult to find time to get to the gym so most of my weight loss is going to have to be with counting calories. I have had really good success with that in the past. My biggest problem is just getting the motivation to commit and start my weight loss journey. I know the picture in my head of me on my "big day" should be enough motivation -- but so far it's not working!!! Any ideas or words of wisdom to give me a motivational kickstart?
