Hey All,
I've noticed quite a few people from MA around the past couple of days. I myself live west of Boston. This can be a place for us to come together and motivate each other, keep each other from going to Anna's Taqueria too much and maybe even work out together if anyone was interested. I'm 26 and pretty involved in the nightlife here, so far I'm down about 5-6 pounds!

Anna's Taqueria!!!!! Oh MAN is that good stuff, I haven't had it in YEARS! I'm not in Mass (CT here) but I went to BU so I am very aware of Anna's :-) Not local enough to join ya for a work out, but I just had to reminse a bit about the burritos....mmmm..... :-)
Haha I know!!! I get my hair done in a salon right in that plaza in Porter, so thats the only time I will stop in, but hot DAMN they have good burritos!! :)
I live in Brookline like a half a block from an Anna's.
Never been a huge burrito fan, but my fiance can't get enough of them. Indian buffet is my nemisis, and man I can't wait until after the wedding to have it again! I tried the moderation thing and utterly failed.
Anyone have some tips on some good places around where you can eat healthy? One i like is Fresh City in Landmark plaza by fenway. Good wraps and salads.

i can so go on and on about the great places to eat up there (but I won't! it won't help you one bit and i'm sure you already know them all :-) ). wish i was still living in boston (for more reasons than just the food :-) ) but somewhat glad i'm now in a place where tasty temptations like that are not an option :-)
God Love the Massholes! Boston is SUCH a restaurant city and I totally feel your pain! I'd actually love some tips on healthy places to eat as well, seeing as I often find myself in the North end! Damn you delicious italian food!
Love Fresh City. I am just outside Boston. We eat out A LOT. I've just started keeping a spreadsheet of restaurants we frequent, with "safe" meals. Here's some favorites on my list - with estimated calorie counts - so far. All counts are estimates only:
Matt Murphy's:
- Endive salad approx cals 125
- Trout w/green beans, 680 calories... have them hold the crispy's and ask for reduced sauce or sauce on the side... that'll save something like 400 calories!! Or just eat half and save the rest for the next day.
Squealing Pig:
- Proscuitto Pizzetta, hold the gorgonzola... about 250 calories for half, or 500 for the whole thing.
Christopher's
- Lots of safe & vegetarian stuff, but try the swordfish, have them swap fries for extra veggies. approx cals 390 (incl a side salad)
River God's
- Grazing plate, approx 425 calories
- God Salad (don't have calorie estimate)
- Korean handrolls
- Skewers
Miracle of Science
- Skewers - ask for half veggie, skip the tortillas, and go really easy on the sauce.
Also try KnowFat in Watertown. It's like a fast-food joint without the guilt!!
Mexican can be tough, I don't know if it's low-cal, but try out Tu Y Yo in somerville.... mmmmmmmmmm.... gourmet stuff, they even have grasshoppers on the menu!

Another Masshole checking in. I live in Littleton right now, but I did live in Boston for two years and throughout local suburbia all my life. I don't have much to say in the way of of specific restaurants, but I will keep my ears open for advice from you guys!
Oh i LOVE KnowFat! Its about a block from my house.
Christophers is also excellent, they have fantastic salads and vege burgers.
There is a great trail near my house that runs along the Charles, Im planning on starting to run it in the mornings. Next weekend Im going to see how far into town I can make it ;)

ooh ooh i'm a masshole! i live on the south shore and work in the back bay! i've been trying to make some more friends so maybe this is a good way! oh, and kat, i was marilyn for halloween last year!
jen, used to live on mission hill so i know the squealing pig very well! don't think i could ever say "hold the gorgonzola" though...mmmm gorgonzola!

Katt, I'm about a mile or so from you. And I run along the Charles, but I drive to Artesani park and run a loop around there, or I go up to BC and run around the reservoir. Usually mid- to late morning. I telecommute so I have the luxury of going whenever! I'd offer to meet you for a run sometime, but since you're 26 and I'm 41, I'm going to guess you run a lot faster than me and I couldn't keep up :-(
Jules, LOL ! The pig just changed their menu, it's slightly more diet-friendly... but I confess I'll always have a passion for their bacon-blue cheese toasties!! Mmmmm!! It's one of my DH's favorite "joints" so we hit it anytime we're in the area, usually checking out art openings at Mass Art. Those are always a good time... especially the Iron Pour.
Jen, where is Artesani park?? Telecommuting is sweet! I don't get to do it, but I envy those who do :)
Oh I don't know about me running faster than you, I think it will be a big enough challenge to actually get out the door onto the trail!!!!
Jules, awesome! Marilyn is one of my staple halloween costumes :)
Oh I spent many a night hanging out on mission hill in college!!! Good times :)

Katt, Aretesani is the official name of the park area off Soldier's Field Road, where there's the Theater-in-the-park, a playground, and a large parking lot. I'm sure you've passed it a million times and never knew what it was called, as did I! They hold a lot of 5k's there.
The loop I do comes out to 2.8 miles - you run from the parking lot to Gerry's Landing Bridge, cross the river, run down Greensborough Blvd to the bridge at Arsenal street, and loop back along soldier's field road. Occasionally on a Sunday I'll run from Artesani down Mem Drive instead.
It's perfect running weather right now, so get your butt out that door! :-)

thought you guys would get a kick out of this! did a little shopping in faneuil hall yesterday to use up a giftcard and i went into urban outfitters. there, on a table with a big sign that said SALE: $4.99, was a whole pile of t-shirts that said M is for Masshole! needless to say, i now own one! i think it was meant to be! maybe i'll wear it running for inspiration.
kat, i wish i could be marilyn every year! that was my favorite costume ever.
jen, bacon blue cheese toasties? i think i'm going to have dreams about those! usually i just go for the beer at the pig haha.

So I didn't make it out the door this morning to run. I came ***this*** close.. But I did bust ass at the gym yesterday and will be hitting it up again after work.
hahha Jules, that is awesome about the Massholes tee shirts!! nice!
It is beautiful out today! I think I may have to take a little walk at lunch time.

Have all of you ever thought of arranging an informal meet up? Post a time and place on the Lounge Forum and sign people up. I've been to two east coast meetups in DC, and there is one coming up in NYC memorial day weekend.
Meeting face to face is so much fun!

It's possible I suppose...
Being an internet person is a lot less scary sometimes though!!

Hello everyone, another Masshole, I just joined this yesterday. I think this is worse then giving up alcohol, lol. So far so good, lol. I used to live on the coast (Winthrop) but have moved inland some. I think the only way to eat at a healthy resturant for now, for me, is to stay out of them. This really does make you think about what you put in your mouth when you add all the calories up. I think it is actually motivational (if I spelled that right) when you can see up front what you eat and what you can change to, to make it better.
P.S. Think I am actually going to try some situps, ouch.

Westport in da house!
I was so excited to see 'masshole' I haven't even read the other posts... I'll go do that now!
Thanks kattastic for posting!
