Quote  |  Reply

ok, i'm getting massive headaches, the one that i've currently got is just over 25hrs old.

i get headaches alot but they rarely last this long. it's not stress related and it can't be due to lack of exercise cuz thats just stupid (isn't it) and i'm still keeping my food in take the same as always.

someone help me, cuz it's going to effect my grades for this term!

Are you sure they are headaches and not migraines?  I get migraines that last that long or longer, but not headaches.
It is probably because your blood sugar is too low. Even if you are staying within your calorie range, you still need to make sure you are eating enough sugar. I have found that if I eat too many things in one day that are sugar free or made with Splenda, I get headaches. I asked my mother-in-law, who is a nurse, and she said it is probably low blood sugar. Trying eating something with natural sweeteners everyday, like apples or other fruits. Maybe this will help; it usually helps me.
Make sure you're drinking a lot of water. A minimum of 64 ounces a day (2 large Evian bottles, for example) or even more.

Have you changed your caffiene intake? Suddenly restricting caffiene can cause really bad headaches. Even if you've just had a little bit each day and then stopped.

Also agree with the blood sugar comment. Eat some fruit. And make sure you're getting enough protein, too, in your daily diet.

yeah, they probably are migraines actually.. but, i drink things like apple and blackcurrent juice and soy milk and i eat heaps of fruits, i drink heaps of water to keep me hydrated now that its summer.

I've gotten a migraine like this before and that lasted for a week but that was during a time when i didnt have 6 assessments and assignments due.

it's just annoying and painful..

thanks for your help though, got any more tips?

If these are migraines, my best tip is to see a doctor. And/or neurologist - as soon as you can. I've had migraines since I was about 12 or 13 years and they didn't get diagnosed until I was in my 30's. NOT FUN!!! Have you already taken a pain reliever? If not - try taking one with caffiene in it, like Excedrin. However be careful with this - for some people who get migraines, caffiene actually makes them worse (for me it makes it better).

There are a couple of threads here on migraines, too. You can do a search and see if any of those will help you.

I always get a migraine for about 2 days before I start my monthly friend. Do you think it could be related to your monthly cycle?
may i suggest not taking something with caffine in it. I have migraines, and caffine makes them worse, and if youre trying to work on school work, trust me, you don't want that.

mine usually get worse during finals time too, i think its the stress.

i used to take ibprofin and then just lay down with a pillow over my head, but when that stopped working, i went to my college health center. they have free samples of migraine medicine you can try there and hopefully see if thats whats wrong with you.

i wish you luck, i know how horrible headaches can be.

thanks heaps poly and amy, i'm not really stressing out, i'm relatively relaxed about these assessments which is wierd for me. it may even just be heat. but who knows.

last time i went to see a dr about these migraines i'd had it for about a week and the stuff he gave me was really good, but they don't seem to work anymore.. Cry and things lyk nurofen and panadol and ibprofen have lost all use. i can quickly grow an immunity to medications yet, i'm always sick..

i'll hopefully get rid of them soon, if not i think my grades will suffer pretty badly..Cry

Do you eat canned soup very much or Chinese food?

MSG (mono sodium glutamate) can cause migraine like headaches.

It's in alot of other stuff too. I had this happen to a friend and when he gave up the soup it went away.

nah, soups and most foods are made at home, my stepdads a master at cooking and ma's a pro at soups..

i've been to the dr and he just said it may be related to my studying and it's effecting my eyes. so i'm going to the optometrists on thursday, maybe friday..

i hate doctors.. :(

Charley,

I also get migraines, but mine have a warning period where I get a visual disturbance. I have an aura that happens in the center of my vision that works it's way outwards until I loose most of my peripheral vision. My doctor explained that taking 1500 mg of pain killer before the end of this disturbance would stave off the actual migraine. It took me several major migraines and a trip to the optomestrist with concerns I might be developing glaucoma before he was able to connect the headache to the visual disturbance. I understand that this is common for a fair amount of migraine sufferers. Hope you are one of the lucky ones that has some type of built in warning system. I have been migraine free for years but have several visual disturbance events per year. Matter of fact, had one just last night after my first weight training session in 2 months. Good Luck!

thanks sarah,

i'm not really sure if i get a warning period, if i do i havent noticed. well, anyway, i'll keep you udated.

i had my first major assessment yesterday and that was ok, but i had to go home after it, my head was killing me. I'll let you know what happens with the optometrist..

thanks for all your help to everyone..Laughing
