good luck gimmebear!
I'm doing it right now. I'm on day 3. I've been exercising like crazy and was on pretty much an all veggie and light protein diet. I weighed 178 on July 4th. I started the cleanse on Sunday night weighing in at 171. I'm on day 3 and I weighed in at 166 (!) this morning. I'm not that hungry, and I was even able to go to the gym where I swam a mile this morning. I have plenty of energy, and at this point, am having relatively little difficulty w/ the cleanse. I highly recommend reading the master cleanse book. It's good to know what to expect and exactly how to do it. I'm told and have heard that it can be very difficult if you do not follow the steps exactly, and that includes weaning yourself off of caffeine and red meat prior to starting the cleanse itself. I'm a former competitive ski racer and have been in pretty good shape, I started the cleanse because I had surgery on my ankle in February and was immobile for more than a month and leading up to and post the surgery, all I did was eat and gain weight. It feels good to detox the food, booze and prescription drugs from my system.
hey i just started my MC last night and did my 1st salt water flush this morning and now that i have finished that process... i was wondering is it OK to take my birth control pills now? I know i cant take anything else but i think they said birth control pills was OK to take as long as its after the flushing process is over. BUT i also wanted to know if it would still be effective.... don't want to end up trying to jump start a healthy diet by going on the MC and end up with a baby! Lol

Why would you start a 'healthy diet' by doing something so incredibly unhealthy?
ok this may be a little bit too much info but I think I have to say it all to clearly explain what my problem is. 1) I've never been regular... ever. So I know for sure I have a lot of build up that I want to get rid off, probably more so than most. 2) I have been an addict to carbs (rice & noodles) and its been so out of control the past year that its ruining my life, really. lol I'm always sluggish, tired, drain...just completely no energy....for anything. I have tried lots of diets such as south beach diet, weight watchers, and just in general trying to eat better but nothing works because I'm constantly fiending for carbs. And knowing myself, in order for me to completely quit an addiction I have to do it cold turkey. Just like when I quit smoking. I tried doing the whole weight watchers by cutting out carbs the first week or 2 but I didn't even make it past day 4 because everything that I eat seem to need rice or pasta with it and after that torture of that tease, I found myself quitting the diet. BUT when I DID eat carbs again after NOT eating it for 3 days I found myself to get full faster off of carbs and not want as much....
Sooo this leads me to the MC theory...MY theory, that since I have to do things cold turkey... I might as well get rid of all my toxins, kick my carb addiction and start eating healthier foods with ease and starting out completely cleansed...without the fiend, as end result...hopefully by eating healthier it will make me regular. So theres a few things i want to accomplish by doing what this cleanse hopefully will offer.
Notice how my main reasons isn't weight loss? That's because I know that AFTER the cleanse when I start to ease back into eating healthier foods as a way of living instead of just as a diet, I know I'm going to be losing weight anyways so that's not a concern of mine but I guess it's just a plus.
Trust me, I'm aware of your concerns... I freaked out when my friend was going to do this too during last summer. she didn't really make it past day 3 anyways. But I need to try something....
Question. I'm planning on doing the cleanse for about 10 days or so but lets say my 10th day is.... on a friday and IIve been drinking the lemonade like im supposed to and on the 11th day I should be doing the half OJ half water drink... THAT MORNING of the 11th day do i still do the salt water flush? and after everything has calmed down THEN i start my OJ/water routine or do i NOT do the salf water flush that morning at all? Thanks!
First of all, you should be aware that this website does not advise the use of this thing as it is widely considered to be an unhealthy practice. As you can tell from the date of the threa OP, this is not a new topic, and this is certainly not an isolated thread - If you do a forum search, you'll see a lot more threads on this.
That being said, I do believe there is a Master Cleanse book and a website.

Quick question - aren't most of the calories in the Master Cleanse from the maple syrup?
Maple syrup, being that it is 100% sugar, and therefore 100% carbs, doesn't seem like the best food to consume going cold turkey off carbs.
I just think you might want to reassess your strategy.
Calorie Count Plus does not support the promotion of cleanses and fasts for dieting purposes
Calorie Count is all about sustainable weight loss, this can be done by using the Tools on this site to achieve a healthy reduction in calories leading to weightloss which can be maintained long-term without too much effort.
The problem with using fasts and cleanses for weight loss is that you are bound to gain the weight back once you get off the fast. Also during the fast you are not getting sufficient dietary nutrition. The gain back in weight after ending the fast may lead to what is known as "yo-yo dieting" which can add to frustration, self-esteem issues and a life of constantly going up and down with your weight with no real progress.
From the Ask Mary section of Calorie Count (such a great section, please try it out!):
Should I use a cleanse to jump-start my diet?
A cleanse is unnecessary, but a short-term fast like the Master Cleanse you describe, might serve as a tangible signal of change and should not hurt a healthy woman – as long as it doesn’t last for more than one day. The body doesn’t need a cleanse because it has systems to eliminate toxins and a fast lasting longer than a day will lead to muscle breakdown, nutrient deficiencies, headaches, irritability, and fatigue. Avoid fasts that use laxatives, which can lead to dehydration and colon damage, as well as those that use colonic irrigation, which can infect or perforate the bowel.
This diet is very clearly an unsustainable fad diet.
Instead of cleansing using a fad diet, eat these foods which are healthy, mainly low cal and naturally cleansing ...
