Master Cleanse ~~*Day 1*~~

Quote  |  Reply

Today I have officially started the Master Cleanse/ Lemonade Diet....

Here I want to keep a journal of what I am going through and what I have thought and felt... So if any of you are doing this you can maybe be helped by these entries.

I am super excited about it, I have wanted to do a fast for a while, I have researched tons on this, what to expect type of things.  I have decided to do this for a few reasons and among all the reasons I would say actual weight loss is at the very bottom.  I want to feel better, and I want to prove I can do it.

Yesterday was my last day of eating solid foods for a week.   Today I took nothing in except for the lemon/maple syrup/cayenne pepper water.   I did my normal daily routine.  I even went to the gym and did a light workout.  Today I have had a bit of a headache that I would associate with lack of caffeine.  It should be gone tomorrow.  Other small things to note:  my period is close, I have sore shoulders and a stiff muscle in my neck.  Probably from sleeping funny the other night.

Today I did feel slightly hungry but only at lunch time (around two).  I took some laxative tea the night before and I don't think it worked well, so I had another cup at lunch time.  I think it finally kicked in.  Surprised  Tonight I did have a bellyache but after I went to the bathroom I was fine.   Time for more tea... day one done.

what type of maple syrup are you using? when I read about this it says something about B or A grade maple syrup... but I havn't been able to find any of that. All we have in my stores are fake maple syrup, or real pure maple syrup.. nothing about a grade on it.

I am from Canada so maybe that's why... any ideas?

apple 14, you being from Canada for sure should be able to find Grade B.  Here in Itlay it doesn't exist, my thoughts on the Grade A vs. Grade B are that there is more nutrition and less processing in Grade B.  You should be able to get it form a health food store.  Just ask or do a quick search online.

Wow, what a plan. Eat or Drink nothing, except some occasional maple syrup for a sugar rush.

This entire thread should be deleted. This is a terrible plan.

There are any number of reasons why people decide to do a cleanse or fast. The major ones are usually detoxification, religious purposes, and the ever popular weight loss.  Cleansing does not cause you to lose fat, despite the popular myths.  In fact, you can lose water weight, muscle mass and organ tissue when your body starts using what's available to compensate for the lack of nutrition.  If weight loss is your true goal, then please reconsider your plan.

Where to by Grade B Maple Syrup? (Grade B maple syrup seems to be very important to the success of Master Cleanse, usually the maple syrup that you would buy in the grocery store is either pure corn syrup or Grade A maple syrup, so make sure you are getting the right stuff):

In my opinion the daily info on your progress should be posted in your personal Journal...not in this group. Anyone interested can read your journal for all the details. That's what journals are for. In my opinion this is an unhealthy plan and should not be advocated on Calorie Count.

You want to prove that you can? Do you think it's healthy to feel that you have to prove that you can starve your organs, muscles, and tissues for ten days?

Laxative tea will flush out the normal intestinal flora (good bacteria), and it can take your body a long time to regain the right balance. You need your friendly bacteria to help with digestion and to help protect you against bad bacteria.

People that have a healthy digestive system should be thankful for that and not treat it with such abuse. Your body is self-cleaning, but it can't do it without fuel. Starvation is not a valid path to healthy weight loss.

Please do some more research from credible sources (those who are not trying to sell you a product or program), and I hope you will abandon this "cleanse".
As long as you're doing the cleanse with full knowledge that it is in fact a fast, and you're not just doing it for weight loss . . . I wish you the best of luck.

I found the online journal of someone who did the Master Cleanse a few years ago:

http://yestheyrefake.net/lemonade_diet_cleans e_journal.htm

Interesting perspective.

This is for a cleanse purpose first and for most.  I really thought that people here would be more open to something like this.  I am surprised and thank you for the wish of luck!

While this is the health and support forum, this is not the I can do whatever I want and expect nothing but cheers.  If members feel that your intentions are unhealthy, and many of them appear to, then it is up to them to post or not post as their conscience directs them.

As I understand it, a cleanse can be done for any number of purposes and in any number of ways.  Some of those purposes strike me as just plain idiotic and some of the methods are downright dangerous in my opinion.  Having read some of the information on the lemonade cleanse, I believe that it barely gets you the 1200 minimum calories per day which is why I did not delete the post.

You straight up said that one of the primary benefits for you was weight loss, having said that I'm delighted to see so many people saying, hey, don't do it, this is not a good way to lose weight.  I personally don't think that you'll end up with the results you want, but I'm interested in seeing how it turns out for you.

For those of you who don't want to read about fasting, who don't agree with the idea, or any of you who have negative comments to leave, this thread is not for you. Health and SUPPORT only please.

Today was day two, I was surprised how easy it went. I was a bit hungry when I woke up but a bit of tea took care of that. No aches or pains... only slight hunger, but yesterday I would say there was more. I have read that it goes away after some days. I did the same things I always do again... a light workout. I can count on the "lemonade" to help me through that. I also have understood that juice fasting is safer and helps you through a normal day when water fasting alone is much more strenuous on the body and one really should do nothing.

I did weigh myself before and then again today, just in these two days I have dropped in weight 4.5 kilos. I know that it isn't fat, it's just 3 or four meals and maybe a bit of water... kinda gross... but that is what it is designed to do... Flush you out. I am curious to know how it will keep going...

I am curious if anyone has tried a salt water flush? Drinking the salt water to trigger a flush of the intestines.

It sounds like something I want to try do you have to but books or can you find recipes online. I'm doing a colon cleansing right now. Its going pretty well. I feel like I need to "start over". Hope it goes well I will continue to read this post. Oh yea how does it taste
Health?!  I am wondering about your defination of health.  I also wonder if you plan to have a monthly cleanse or a yearly cleanse etc.  In other words, is this going to be a lifestyle change?  You'll be 70 or 80 doing this?  In one phase of my employment history, I was a care giver for the elderly.  I remember one lady who cried every day cause she could not have a normal bowel movement- she had used artifical means to get her body to do normal functions and now had to use a suppository to get her body to function.  Was a pitiful painful mess and I felt so very helpless cause she had done it- like watching someone die of cigarettes.  I wish the best for you.  For me, I am continuing on a slow but sure path- losing 10 pounds in two months, educating my self on what nourishes and what slowly kills my cells.  I hope the best for you.

Hi,

I've done the cleanse a few times. The salt flush and tea are absolutely necessary, because you aren't eating any fiber. If you want to truly cleanse, your body needs the flush to rid itself of toxins.

That said, I just want say that the cleanse does not work for weight loss. The second you eat food again,  whatever you lost will come back. The cleanse is useful for realigning your body to healthfulness in general or have chronic health problems, but it is not intended for, nor does it cause, weight loss. It'll come back in two weeks, tops.
